A big thank you to Apostle Lachlan Mackay for sharing some of the history of Nauvoo, a lot of which is not commonly known. What great sacrifices the Smith family made to bring forth the restoration of the gospel and church of Jesus Christ. Jeff Jenks

My GGGGrandfather Jacob Scott and his family joined the Church in Canada, they moved to Far West then to Nauvoo. My GGGrandfather, John Scott was a captain in the Nauvoo Legion and a bodyguard to the Prophet. John was one of those who retrieved the Prophets body. John learned of polygamy from Joseph and eventually took 4 additional wives and followed Brigham to Utah. The rest of the family aligned with Emma and became members of the Reorganized Church.

Why do you not tour the Nauvoo House?

The Nauvoo House, under the jurisdiction of CofC, was used as a functioning gathering space that could be rented out for events. There are rooms with bunk beds, bathrooms, a dining hall, kitchen, etc. I don't know much about the history of its use, but from my own stay there about a decade ago, I'd say it has served in that capacity at least since the 1950s.
