Great video. So I purchased this setup now that I am retired just to enjoy my own roasting. Not sure if these are trade secrets, but how do you determine where to stat the heat. Let's say on a 1/2 pound or 1 pound load. If I did a rate of rise of 1 degree per second that would mean a temp of 700 plus degrees in 12 min. any advice on how I should start would be appreciated. Happy to help here! I'll start by saying that every bean is different and I adjust the temperature based on that. As an example, since I mainly roast 3lbs, the charge temp is set to heat 5, which gets the machine temp to around 315-325. I'll adjust this slightly depending on the amount of beans I'm throwing in, but most of the time, no matter if it's 1 or 3lbs I'll set it to 5. This ensures that the machine temp preheats enough. Where I adjust the temp most is after I've thrown the beans in. Remember that ror decreases as the roast goes on, so for a smaller roast size (1lb), I may only set the temp to 6 by the end of the roast. But I will slowly adjust it as I'm making my way to 6. I'd say that the most important thing is to get the machine temp pre-heated to around 300-350. No higher. It will rise after you place the beans inside and begin first crack around 500. Also something to note. There are other videos out there that claim you can just throw beans in back to back without adjusting the roast temp, but that's incorrect and can lead to some serious fire danger. Trust me. After the roast has completed, I always turn the heat back down to 4 or 5. Do not throw your beans in when the temp is around 500. Hope this helps!
