Coffee Table Z-gauge Computer-controlled Model Railway Layout

Marklin Z-scale recreation of a trip up to the Alpine station of St Lesitz circa 1927, built into a coffee table. The whole layout is solar powered, and self-sufficient even indoors. Computer controlled using several PIC microprocessors, it runs on a single Lithium battery.
The table is about 1100mm by 360mm by about 75mm deep. See scottpages.net for construction details.

I love it and want to do something like that as well.... kinda new to the whole deal and was wondering if those tracks need to be wiped down often? is that pitting in the rails from electrical arcs an exaggerated issue or not?
