Maybe I'm a madman, but I would have checked with the rook on g8 instead of taking the pawn at the end. You don't need the pawn, it is forced mate either way. I like the psychological approach of making the opponent feel like they could ALMOST defend it. Like, "Here is my rook, in line with THREE of your major pieces. But you can't take it my friend. You just have to let me mate you". But I'm a madman.
