Mt. Washington is awesome. I did a solo climb in my 20s and it was phenomenal. Of course, even a solo climber is surrounded by a dozen others, so there's hardly any danger. The last third of the ascent is the best, scampering up the ravine with three-point climbing. And as you said and showed, the views are phenomenal. When I reached the road near the top, not far from the parking lot, I saw a wealthy-looking British woman who asked "You didn't just climb up when there's a perfectly good road?" I laughed and laughed.

I hiked up to the summit on Labor Day with two friends, up the Tuckerman Ravine trail and back down the Lion's Head trail -- 3:40 going up, and 2:30 doing down - but weather was perfect, no wind, no clouds, 62 deg F -- even then it is a long steep uphill trail, gnarly with rocks and easy enough to misstep on and get hurt -- with snow, in a stiff icy wind, in thick mist, one could get into serious trouble, obviously

+Jon Kudos to Marty Engstrom Television Engineer/Weatherman extraordinaire. Provided many years of letting us all know how things were going on the Mtn. WMTW Channel 8 Poland Springs Maine was the channel he was on, Believe it or not the anchor team was Elise Wolfman and Kerry Killbride, no wonder Stephen King hails from Maine with names like that. I watched the nightly news from them when I worked for the Town of Kittery in the early 80's and when Marty was working the Mountain that was the high point(literally) of the newscast. Sometimes his cat would walk in front of the camera for a bonus.

I visited the top today and drove my 2017 forester up it. Today is the last day the road is open for 2020. It was thankfully super clear and no cloud cover. The roads are dodgy, and the gravel area is the worst overall, I don’t think 2 smart cars can pass in most places in that stretch. If anyone ever does this just remember to use the pull overs on the way up and down so your engine/brakes stay cool

Did it last Monday, June 4. 27 degrees Fahrenheit on the summit and everything covered in ice. Visibility was poor but I’m still glad I did it. We did have some nice views on the way up..I would gladly do this again.

...there’s at least two curse words... and a video like this people would reasonably be watching with their kids, grandparents, etc. They don’t expect someone to randomly drop a fully audible F bomb, especially when it was unnecessary and obviously edited INTO the video, instead of just leaving it out. It’s just bad manners, and that is why people are commenting. Rudeness isn’t a crime...but it’s still rudeness. And it will totally bring down an otherwise lovely little video.

Good narration voice. I've been up there many times, never on the railway though. Each time I look at the price and choke on the cost and the time, then drive up. Good video too. The price has gone up since you did it. The development is actually less than it was, there's no hotel any more. Just parking and the observatory and radio stations. The public part is a small part of the observatory really. You can volunteer there for a week of cooking for the staff. Once you have volunteered in the summer you can volunteer in the winter.

AlarmingRob Ive hiked the Appalachian mountains as well as the Rockies and you cannot come close to comparing these two vastly different ranges. In fact, I climbed mt. Washington yesterday on the hardest trail in the northeast (Huntington ravine) and can say it was the toughest climbing I've ever done. It started out at 87 degrees bright and sunny. When I was coming down tuckerman's ravjne, it was 55 and hailing. It's not the height, but the shift in weather that's most dangerous. Over 150 people have died on Washington, not counting the numerous others throughout the white mountains. Don't be too quick to assume about a place you've never been to

I grew up in Maine. I hiked Mt Washington in 88 and 92. I hiked most of the presidentials, spent half my youth in the White Mountains. Don't know what you climbed out west but it obviously wasn't Mt Rainier or the like. In fact the mountain I was on last week just barely had the snow melted enough to be able to summit. Over 400 people have died on Mt Rainer alone and there are no "tourist" roads going up.

I recently took two years a rode a Suzuki DRZ 400 From Oregon to Brazil. Five years ago I spent a year in SE Asia. And I'm not talking about living in hotels, either. Filtered my own water, slept whever I could jam down a tent or net. Next adventure is riding to Alaska from Idaho via the Dalton highway. Oh yeah, Australia and NZ in 96. Throw in Japan, South Korea, Myanmar and Vietnam too.

I really hate to be negative here but I grew up in Maine and my whole life I heard people hyping up the altitude of Mt. Washington. You even hear it in the video. Listen, Mt. Washington is 6,200 feet and some change above Sea Level. Pretty measly in terms of mountains (even in the US). Most of the mountains in Nevada and California that size are not even named because they’re so irrelevant. Mr. Washington is beautiful and is a record holder for weather (mostly due to its location), but for the love of god, can we stop pretending it’s second to Mt. Everest…….
