My theory as to why Swink survived in the real world and died in the game was that in the game were his character was chased there weren't any rose bushes, but they were there in reality. The part that always confused me was that October, the one who knew the most about the Countess, went after her knowing that she had to hammer three nails into her body. However, she also said how the Countess was locked up in her tower so the Countess that she saw in the un-finished house was not the real one and so hammering the nails would have meant nothing.
@assassinstormie3273Ай бұрын
I think it shows how frazzled her brother's death made her. She was no longer thinking clearly or rationally, she went into the house to begin with knowing none of them were safe; she knew Elizabeth's body wouldn't be in there. She probably was also hoping to be reunited with him, she was already screwed at that moment; her leg was trapped, she couldn't hear the others coming for her, might as well go kicking, screaming and throwing nails at a ghost.
@jasonworlock5113Ай бұрын
@@assassinstormie3273 I would say your first statement is what likely happened. That Phenas' death messed her up she wasn't thinking correctly, because she grabbed the nails and later nail gun before she was trapped.
@Sombriage25 күн бұрын
Swink survived because the Countess was further melding the game to the real world so when his character dies while he is protected by roses in the real world the link between him and the game is broken. I think it's also how he broke the door because he wasn't limited by the video game rules that the main character was at that time. October I think was just consumed with rage and believed she was fighting the physical form of the Countess when it was just her spirit. Could've also been pride was a factor since she believed she could handle it herself since she knew about a lot of the lore. Like most horror movies - running off alone or splitting up isn't a good idea. Another good reason why you shouldn't smoke beyond cancer.
@jasonworlock511325 күн бұрын
@@Sombriage I 100% agree on October. With Swick, I don't think the van door was magical beyond the Countess shutting and locking the doors. She could affect the real world to a degree, but she couldn't make the window unbreakable because Swink hadn't been killed in the game at the time. Once a character was killed in the game or about to be killed in, they fair game for the Countess to kill them how she wanted. Otherwise wise she had to use what was available.
@Sombriage25 күн бұрын
@@jasonworlock5113 I am talking about the very end when Swink breaks open the door while Hutch can't get out after setting the Countess on fire. At that point Swink is "out of the game" and can bend the rules that the Countess would otherwise set when it comes to locking doors and whatnot. If it wasn't for Swink I think Hutch would've died because he was still in a way linked to the Countess since his character didn't die unlike Swink. The game also makes some nods to "cheating" where Swink figures out a cheat code and they mention the concept of the Countess cheating a few times so it makes a bit of sense that Swink accidently "cheats the system" by falling in real roses yet lives while his character doesn't and thus dies. At that point and on Swink is outside the rules of the game so possessed locked doors aren't going to stop him unlike with Hutch. In any case, underrated movie for sure.
