Crawling Topic starts at: 11:30
*****Question & Answers*****
Q. What is Cogging?
A. even when full voltage is applied to the stator winding, the rotor of 3-ph cage IM fails to start. This happens when the no.of stator and rotor slots are either equal or having an integral ratio. In order to reduce/ eliminate this effect no.of slots are never be made equal to or an integral ratio.
Q.How to reduce cogging effect?
A.Cogging can also be reduced by using skewed rotor.
Q.What is Crawling?
A: It has been observed that squirrel cage type induction motor has a tendency to run at very low speed compared to its synchronous speed, this phenomenon is known as crawling. The resultant speed is nearly 1/7th of its synchronous speed.
Q.How to reduce crawling effect?
A: This effect can be reduced by providing short pitch winding or by using machine with high starting torque.
Q: Why crawling and cogging comes in squirrel cage?
A: Because, Squirrel cage rotor has low starting torque.

So, is cogging a running phenomena, or is it mostly a start up phenomena? And is cogging an issue if the motor has a flywheel attached? Like a phonograph motor for example. I am trying to explain how a 16/12 ratio BLDC motor works and if cogging is even an issue when there is a 4 pound platter/flywheel attached.

If load torque is 8.5 and alignment torque is 1.5 it means total torque which is trying to resist the motion of rotor is 10 and also driving electrical torque is 10 so the machines will not rotate or rotate...?
