You could , at the head of the spring, build a springhouse with a reservoir. Use the solar powered pump. No gamble, the water is there. Mr Greg could set a reservoir tank for you. Check the price. Good luck!

My husband and I put a deep water well in, many years ago, on our property in Virginia. It was around 9k. Worth every penny. I pray you get the positive outcome we did. A second, safe, source of water for your beautiful farm is a smart idea. What a wonderful discovery of the gentleman, just around the bend, that is able to work on your granddaddy’s tractor. 🚜 I’m thrilled for you. 🤗 Jason . . . you are such a sweet man. Returning to the creek so the puppies could take a dip. They are pure joy to watch. So many great things happening for Cog Hill Farm. All blessings and well deserved. 🙏🏽💓💐

They slipped it by before covid when they made it so the pharmaceutical companies are not liable for any medicine or medical side effects.. It's a terrible ordeal that we are all facing.. Jason if you think $2000 for pipe is bad…our well costs almost $10,000. We are in middle georgia. They had to go deeper than the 200 feet included in the price. I think they had to go 305’. So we paid for an extra 105 feet.

Boy does this video bring back childhood memories. At our farm, our water source was a mountain spring that was about 1/2 mile from the house. It fed into a similar "stream" to yours and into a ram - then up a hill (no idea of the elevation) into a cistern. That fed the sawyer on our sawmill's house and then downhill to our house. Until you showed this video I never had an idea how that all worked and I'm 76 now - and you are still educating me.

It's Always good to have extra water sources on a farm. We run our farm/house completely off well water and we love it. My hubby's grandad had it drilled back in the early 70's and in all those years it has never gone dry. We use it for all of our animals, for our gardens and for our home. Oh, and it tastes SO good. I also own 5 acres, with a small cabin on them, about an hour and a half from where I live. The well there is sulpher water, smells and tastes bad but the garden/yard/animals seem to love it. It Is rough on the plumbing though, corrodes pipes much more quickly that any water I've ever seen. So if you did drill and got water that wasn't drinkable, it's still usable on the farm.

Holly just LOVES her life with you! Precious! The solar powered pump would be ideal. It wouldn't be dependent on traditional power in an outage, as well. The ONLY bad thing about a well is when the power goes out! Maybe even have a pump as a back up for the back up!❤

We inherited our grandparents farm that we have been taking care of for 15 years. It has never been on county water - until this year. We also built a barn. We kept the well - so we can swap back and forth. It has an electric pump. Works great - even many year later. It’s been providing water for granny’s home for over 50 years.

I wonder if running electric out to your stream and using an electric pump once or twice a year, would be cheaper than a well. You wouldn’t have to use it all the time, just when you needed it. It would be faster than a ram pump, but you would still be able to use the water from your stream.

@@AB-ol5uzthere isn’t a filtration system known to man that will filter out really hard water. It will improve it, but your water will still smell like rotten eggs, and you’ll always have some rust issues which is bad for your pipes. I’ve lived with it before and honestly, refuse to do it again! It won’t hurt to talk to neighbors and test your water.

Everyone where we live in South Carolina have wells. We have a normal amount of water for our house and have never had a problem. My oldest son built a house across the road from us and when they put in his well, they hit granite almost instantly. But 80’ down they hit an Artinson well and my father was at my house watching. It’s a wonderful memory, because he passed in 1998, but he actually ran across the road, because the water shot at least 30’ into the air. The man running the machine literally jumped off and ran it scared him so. They told my son he could furnish at least 5-6 homes with water. For Mothers Day one year he had the road trenched and water lines put all around my yard that is an acre and attached his under our house in case we ever ran out. With the turn of the switch our house has his water. A wonderful memory ❤

Holly is just the most perfect dog . My dad had a dog just like her when he was young . He called him Jim and he still talked about him when he was in his 80s . They lost him when I was a toddler and dad said he didn’t want another dog ,so my mum’s dad who was very canny turned up with a collie pup for me on my first day of school . Of course she wasn’t Jim but Lucy (I named her after Lucille Ball ), she had her own special personality. She was a great mother . Once after she decided to round up a flock of sheep and my parents were constantly apologising to the farmer telling him she had slipped out of her collar and leash then just went off like a bullet . No amount of calling was bringing her back until she had done her job . The farmer wasn’t angry at all . He stood down his two dogs and watched then asked if he could buy her . I wish we could have had some extra time to have adopted a collie for dad to keep him company when mum died but he was lost without her and I think he just left to be with her again .❤

My dad bought an old farm back in the 70's as he couldn't take the city life anymore. It was literally out in the middle of nowhere, but we all loved it there. The happiest days of my life were when we lived in the country. The property had an old windmill and huge stock tank, and the windmill kept it full. There was also an old well with one of those old-fashioned handle pumps and everything still worked. The water definitely tastes different than what most people are used to, but it was good clean water. Anyway, the windmill did pump a lot of water, I don't ever remember the tank being empty and we had a lot of thirsty Angus cows during the summers (East Texas).

I'm so happy you knew a guy who knew a guy who could work on your Grandaddy's tractor. I can't wait to see you working the ground with it next spring or possibly later this fall. The well would certainly put you that much closer to self-sustainability. Hopefully it's not too costly so you can get it done. 💜🐾

I think you need to build swales to slow the water going into the pond like you did in your orchard. Places where you have erosion Brook can make swales to slow the water so it can go into the ground this will also filter the water going into the pound. Also move your ducks to the pond they will help seal the pond with silt like they fill up those blue pools with silt. I am going to send you a link to show you how you can get a contour map off of google. All your water is moving too fast straight to the pond where it evaporates.

just an added bonus - crops and any plants hate the water treatment chemicals. my gardens aren't as big as yours but I noticed when I switched to only rain barrels my harvests quadrupled the first year.

I used to have a Sylvester just like yours and I sometimes called him Silly Vester because he was silly. I’m glad I got to see the pups playing in the water. Praying for rain for your farm.
