i'm an ENFJ who has always felt somewhat misrepresented in the community; i've always (before i found out about MBTI) seen myself as a quite logical and goal-oriented person and even though i am definitely an ENFJ, it still feels odd to me when we're seen as highly emotional/"sensitive" people, whereas in reality (from my experience, at least) we can be quite logical, but also, as you said, contradictional in our logic :) never have i thought about that being because of Ne though! there's definitely a lot of food for thought here... as always, great video harry!

if i allowed to guess, i think its because the dichotomies stereotypes of "F" which is both looked down upon and highly misunderstood (in dichotomies theories) when they heard word "F" they think about emotional, sensitive, and other negative stereotypes associated with general understanding of "feeling" based on what i perceived, the word "T" vs "F" in dichotomies is less based on logical/objective vs emotional/subjective, but more on behaviour based which is "object" or "people" oriented, or also "individualistic" vs "cooperative" which is i believe, that the "T" in dichotomies is strongly relate(or if could be explained by) Te-Fi, because their tendencies to be hard in their external world, and more attuned to what they want while F is could be related to Fe-Ti, because their tendencies to be people/society oriented, soft outside, but harsh inside and actually, i believe it could explain your situation, which is atleast you "think" you are logical inside, but if could arrogantly predict, you are more or less friendly in outside manner,

For months I thought I was ENFJ, but as I survey the function and attitude descriptions across multiple sources, I begin to realize that perhaps what I thought was extroverted feeling was me looking at my own Fi. Wearing your heart on your sleeves, seeking creative solutions, trial by error -- these are new ideas I need to take into account. Great video, thank you. I'm so glad that you did this video! ENFJ and ENTJ tend to be a common case of mistyping as each other i think. Because of Ni authority, both tend to be very charismatic, forward moving, attention grabbing individuals, and often very successful. As you said, both employ alot of Fe and Te alike, but the motivations behind it are different. The main difference comes with the divergent stack, othervise they are very similar. So for this reason, many people preceive Enfjs as Entjs, and vice versa. Personally, i've always liked Enfjs because no matter how capable and confident they are, they are always kind, humble, caring and team workers... I hope to see more Enfj content! 😊

I've taken an intensive Myers Briggs and I it showed me pretty close between some aspects, but listening to this, I am SO an ENFJ. I am pursuing a PhD in History in my 70s, no surprise. I am logical and organized, persistent in my goals, very ethical and reliable, and value consensus and harmony in my relationships. I rely on myself and the environment I create for my happiness. I like people but I share my innermost self with a select few to whom I am very loyal. I absolutely compromised myself, knowing I was doing it, to preserve a very abusive relationship, and still feel guilty about that; I lived the life of being very competent in my work life but lost my bearing behind closed doors. Very illuminating!

@8:32 !! @10:28 So this is why i kept typing as an INFJ for most of my life until now. I always felt something was off about the descriptions, like i maybe i was more ExTP though i kept thinking it was because i was a more "turbulent/unhealthy/more logical INFJ just trying to actually get things done but ending up sensitive when they dont work out efficiently" ... when in actuality i realized im an ENTJ.. im completely passionate about what i think and visualize yet i have a terrible handle on my own true emotions and needs that i bulldoze others if i feel they are getting in my way of external harmony (Te apparently, not Fe). For example at my work, for years i kept doing more than i probably had to do individually. I kept saying i did it because i knew i could tackle it most efficiently and so others could focus on easier tasks or ones that best suited their own skills. But even when we had enough people competent and capable enough to do it (or learn) i was still frustrated and didnt understand why i felt so unrelaxed and just wanted to get it all done myself. My problem seems to be i cant just accept other people's style of doing this if i feel its effecting or stopping my vision of getting to a certain outcome. This is how i realized Fe was not present. I kept thinking i did all i did for everyone but i realized the truth was i was too anxious and wanted to comfort myself, but was so disengaged with how i even felt to begin with and just wanted to go to action. Anger has always been a complex for me and i often attributed it to being an HSP or sensitive to the chaos and feelings of other people. I kept thinking its because of their disharmony i had to try and help organize or innovate ways to make things more pleasant in the environment. This turned out not to be Fe like i thought-- i was way too selfish by comparison and because of my repressed Fi function i couldnt tell at all and just thought everything i worked towards was for some greater cause and no one understood that vision i had. After talking and meeting with other actual INFJs i realized i had way less empathy and feeling compared to my thinking function. I felt guilty for it for a long time and couldnt understand why until now. Im happy i do now so i can stop apologizing for my differences or "weaknesses" that i couldnt get a grip on and just now start to recognize my true strengths and motivations. This video really spoke to the gaps and holes in my thinking of the types and functions. Being led to believe i was just a confused INFJ for years to finally being able to understand why i think or do the things i do truthfully feels so great.

I'm ENTJ and my finance is ENFJ I stopped after 13s to write this: I'm am thinking logical hard-ass and my gf have feeling communal kind of personality. Understimated fact is just that we have much more strong sides, and that we are not that stupid to be trapped be all bed sides of these personality threat. For Example I can easly act 100% logical and ignore all of my own emotions, but I learned that it's not a great idea in longer term. And my "secound half" helped me to understand emotions way better than I did before, and shown me it's importance. All our "atributes" have strong and weak sides, we just should learn much enough to get to selfawerness level where we do not hurt ourself, but we find a way to use our strenghts to to avoid getting our weeknesses on ours ways.

I think where the ENFJ (as an ENFJ) is actually coming from is a place of hard coded logic after all Ti is the backbone of our cognition...if you want to get anywhere in life inevitably you have to be able to work people; they are more than mechanistic machines that are extremely complex...there's always a reason we create good vibes...it's not an end in itself which is the important take away it rather makes logically cohesive sense & it just so happens that we're good at manoeuvring people subtly or directly such is convergent FeSe...the bulldozer effect rarely works (not that ENTJs necessarily do this it's contingent on many variables). Not that you implied this but to think that we're just these loving people machines is a real misnomer...we're probably the most calculating individuals you'll meet whilst simultaneously being the most authentic in our assertions ie what is logical.

Forgive me, I’m drunk as I write this. My brother had me take the MBTI when he was in college. I was 15 and had no idea, nor cared what this test meant, results? ENFJ. I took it again years later in in college, Psychology 101. ENFJ. When MTBI became popular on social media, I took the test and posted my results. ENFJ (with that cute protagonist avatar, holding a mighty sword- Ha!) I’m 32 now and have had a few major life changes, and have been contemplating which career I want to pursue to the fullest. Out of laziness, I took an online quiz that I thought would give me results of a job title. My results were “You’re an ENFJ!!” With a picture of Oprah smiling. I always have a roundabout way of saying things, but- I hate being an ENFJ. I absolutely adore my INTJ boyfriend. He’s pretty much incapable of being a phony. He takes his time formulating thoughts, and whether or not he’s correct, it’s 100 percent genuine. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more cynical, especially towards people. I want to help them, but I feel like I’m juggling lead balloons. I’ve got their numbers, area code, zip code, and know what their motives are. If we were to paint the picture of each MBTI in the worst light, aside from the normal “pros and cons”, I’d say ENFJ’s suck the hardest at life when they’re depressed. That’s all.

So... You suggested I might be an Exxx after my comment that I still felt the 38 tests saying I was an INFJ were wrong. So I investigated the Exxx's and identified with quite a bit from the ENFJ. Except for a few critical aspects everyone seems to associate with ENFJ's. 1. ENFJ's are people magnets. I think my magnetic poles are reversed. 2. Harmony above all and avoid conflict at all costs. Pretty sure not one person that knows me would say this about me. 3. Loves big crowds and has a gazillion friends. No and no. And here you are the first one actually mentioning that ENFJ's don't like big crowds unless they can experience them as one entity. Thank you! --> very much me this. I called it being in my bubble observing the crowd, not being part of it. As for friends, it takes a long time before I call anyone friend. I can count the ones I have on 1 hand. I'm very picky as to who I want to hang out with and I spend 99.99% of my time alone and have done so for decades. I tend to feel exhausted after social gatherings and end up wondering why the hell I went in the first place. this is part of the reason why I did identify with quite a bit from the INFJ but still, I'm not anywhere near their assigned unicornish magical etherical gorgeousness. I like my introverted friends because they make silence comfortable. If that makes sense.

i have a question at 5:30 you say, that ENFJ is very trusting of scientific methods to explain reality. But I think what you mean by that is, that ENFJs trust logic a lot, not external sources, which would be the ENTJ who is not concerned with the meaning behind reality at all and therefore does not need it to be logical. This is what gives him the freedom to blindly trust external sources (Te) in the first place to fuel his activities which again allows him to be more playful with reality. He does not need everything to be perfect in a grand scheme of things worldwise. He just needs it to be working perfectly. Would you say this is correct?

@@AceYT69 Ok, so I retook the test some time ago, and it was a clear ENFJ this time. I identify as an ENFJ. But I feel like my first test might have been biased, because I tried to make myself more logical than I actually am if that makes sense. But I am sure there are perfect mixes of types and that is normal! You can never ever fit all society into just 16 boxes and expect them to fit perfectly ❤

Oh yeah. I have no awareness of my own vulnerabilities unless someone is actively trying to do a driveby on me. Which my neighbor is. It's annoying. I mean, whatever happened to talking to people? Gee! Well, I am not sure I am ENTJ or anything at all, at this point. Or, actually, since the age of approx. 24, so about 30 years ago. I had a psych eval that said I was WAY too sane and that I had "deviant" thinking, as in it conformed to neither of the two main thinking patterns. Unfortunately, I did not get to talk to the person who interpreted the evaluation for much time at all. But they said about 50% of the population thinks in one thinking pattern and the other 50% in a different one. Then, there is a third pattern that something like probably 3% of all of humanity has thought like. I have learned how to talk like other people enough to get by, most days. I had a friend who loved me enough, for a time, to learn to talk more like me. I've met many people I could understand enough and/or vice versa. So, I imagine it can't be too far off. One thing she did say is that it in no way means I wouldn't get to the same conclusions as other people. It just means I wouldn't use the same path to get there. I didn't learn what the difference between the patterns is. I have never been able to find that information, except once and that was only enough information to see that what I remembered her telling me is true and accurate.

I wouldn't say I'm extremely conformist (black sheep who hasn't been given hand- me down archetypes) but I very much relate to lacking this introverted sensing specificity to know why I feel a certain way. It certainly explains why I get this Fi-Ni build up that then goes 'boom' every now & again. My other half is an ESFP with a very highly activated Fi-Si; I'm so glad I came across CPT as it's helping with my relationship; I used to 'think' that he was the problem, wanting to go over all the emotional minutia and that basically he was just being 'illogical' but I now realise I'm just as much a part of the problem. An ENTP on the discord has came up with a really inventive project as to how I might overcome my difficulties with Fi-Si & so far I've noticed that I am making some headway; I'm sticking with it as usually if I don't see instantaneous results I bin it off from the outset

ENFJs are often sensitive about their place within the larger collective/relationships whereas ENTJs have a more individualised sensitivity accompanied by a kind of uncertainty. There are no hard and fast rules, however.

This was very interesting. Every time I take a test for personality I get my top as ENTJ... i watched your video and i am beginning to really understand why this is, but i am still confused about one main area. I am an extremely emotional person, but i do my best to make decisions based off logic and rationality because that is what I highly value. Is it possible to have an emotional ENTJ, or have I been mistyped? Everything else in the video seemed spot on when reflecting back on myself, i do have issues identifying my own emotions, but i am definitely NOT a conformist. I am extremely individualistic, but somehow still value the opinions of others. Two areas that really resonated were the forgetfulness and the rewards system. I do run after future happiness and I am forgetful when I lose an item or miss details in a story I'm telling. I am very broad and idealistic in this area. Thanks so much for the vid!

If I am an extrovert (reactive to the outer world, according to your definition) but I feel like I apply Te well but in more of a divergent (observational) manner (in a way that might fit how an INTJ/ISTJ might apply it, rather than as an ENTJ), would this assume that I could not have Te in the dominant nor convergent auxiliary position? Also, does this imply that (as an extrovert) I have to have Fe as dominant or as convergent auxiliary?
@CognitivePersonality4 жыл бұрын
Fe dominant sounds very likely here, but ENTP and ESTP could also apply.

I agree, based on the convergence/divergence criteria. Those are exactly the types that I’m considering here. My gut feeling is that I’m more likely as a judging/codec dom, but I can’t completely rule out the two lens doms as well.

Hi Harry, What do you make of the Objective Personality system and Socionics? There seems to be various models of Socionics. I'm still getting my head around the archetypal names of each role..
@CognitivePersonality4 жыл бұрын
They've both made some wonderful contributions, for sure. Socionics types tend to be similar to MBTI types in name only, there can be overlaps but it is largely a different paradigm based on what a function is 'seen' to be doing. OP takes this to another level and has almost contrary definitions of functions. An OP type will seldom correspond to an MBTI type, and it is again about what is explicity *seen* in a demonstrable way :)

ENFJ here, i was confused about a number of things such as the contradiction you highlighted. At work i remember being able to work efficiently and organize myself however i have a hard time getting off my couch, and i have been also spending alot of time engaging my Ti to conform to what i value. Also I recently took a big 5 test that confused me due to the assumption that enfjs are supposed to be agreeable due to their Fe, but i guess my Ti prevents me from being agreeable , so i guess disagreeableness is not a trait which is specific to the entj. Does this make sense?

I present the different nuances in this video to display in part how different cognitions can very much 'mix' in terms of behaviour - cognitive type itself, however, doesn't mix between similar dichotomies. E.g. an ENTJ and INTP can mix, as can an ENFJ and INFP, but not ENFJ and ENTJ :)

I really feel the pain of the other peoples as it was mine, i can really walk in another people shoes and I also relate a LOT more with the Fe definition than the Te definition. Buuuuut, I can offer solutions to them to feel better. And even when I try my best to be sentimentally caring, It seems its not my strenght to do so. I really want to help the people with their feelings, but Im afraid that I really suck with that. And some negative emotions are difficult for me to handle in another person (even with mine!). I only know how to give the persons around me a physical reward to help then feel better (sometimes my friends says me that im so materialistic). Now I can relate more to entj, but i have a doubt. Logic is not a superior form of thinking to rational. This is a logical fallacy that Ti users consistently assert. Logic users develop stacks of Logic to develop pyramids, but at some point they get lazy and don't take the time to verify certain blocks on their pyramid, eventually leading to a logical leap. These leaps are based on logical assumptions that are presumed true. Rational thinking observes these pyramids from the outside, and can quickly identify anomalies and inconsistencies of thought. Rational can also observe the foundation of the Logic, and any flaws in the assumptions. I've never met a Logic user with sophisticated thinking, despite them putting so much weight on their supposed detailed accuracy. The purity of one's logical pyramids is often built on ego and titles, not reality, although you'd never convince a Logic user of this, because they're blind to their logical leaps. The best thinking usually requires someone with Ti and Te to collaborate, wherein both can fine tune any intellectual structure with the proper checks and balances necessary for true accuracy. The reason ENTJ's are the most successful in business as compared to Ti users is because while a Ti user spends an extraordinary amount of time fine tuning a single pyramid, the ENTJ has already abstractly imagined 50 pyramids and discerned the best one to build. Meanwhile, the Ti user will look at the ENTJ's pyramid and proclaim it as "unreliable", not knowing that even if the ENTJ's pyramid functions at 50% efficiency it's still 2000% more efficient than the pyramid the Ti user is currently "perfecting". This is why Ti users are the employees of ENTJ' and ESTJ's, they're best at perfecting one of our pyramids than building their own.

Not really love I'm an ENFJ who employers ESTJs & ENTJs 😂. I think what you've stated is more in playing to ubiquitous MBTI stereotypes. If you'd watched the video ENFJs have ample usage of TeNe convergence. Yes we're logical hard asses but we're also extremely rationale & pragmatic
@eminemstrash2021 Жыл бұрын
@Tified96 case in point, using an anecdotal experience to nullify larger rational realities on the logic that if ones the exception than they're also the rule. Enfj's are notoriously irrational, you have Inferior Ti.

There's often good reason ENTJs are known for their charisma and it is not owing to sociopathic button pressing, but rather something more authentic and enjoyable. ENTJs tend to perceive status as a means towards happiness, though saying that every (or even most) ENTJs are unstoppable and on the extreme end of extraverted proclivity in every case is a little bit too much of a stereotype for me.

I found this video to be very inaccurate. The ENTJ is TE NI SE FI, and therefore, they have introverted feeling, not extroverted feeling as you state the ENFJ is FE NI SE TI which makes THEM the Extraverted feeling type. Introverted feeling makes us ENTJ's not trust the feeling function mush or pay attention to it or find it important to dwell in. I think you need to check your MBTI information more carefully before putting out this information.
@CognitivePersonality4 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, I don't use MBTI - that system measures how much a person values a function, whereas CPT explores the pathways connecting functions together. Just because a person has Fi in their default state does not bar them from employing Fe from a Te doorway - Te and Fe are opposing ends of what is in reality the same continuum. I use a fluid model and have no interest in boxes that state a person has x function and not another. Cheers for your comment!
@eminemstrash20212 жыл бұрын
The ENTJ's conclusions are absolutely not abstract, and only appear theoretical to those outside. We skip past the A-Z for efficiency sake, and occasionally propose A/2-Z/3 as postulative additives.
