it's subtracting, so what we're actually doing is y - -6y but since there are two subtract symbols, it turns into addition, so in the end you're doing y + 6y to get 7y I'm not the best at explaining and I'm assuming you were revising for GCSEs which have already passed, but oh well 😅

i think you mean what if the divided answer is a negative/decimal, which is fine. for example 5y = 66 we HAVE to find Y. So you HAVE to divide even if it’s not divisible by 5. so 5y = 66 = 66 divided by 5 = 13.2 Y = 13.2. this is a random example btw. sorry if u dont get it but yeah its ok if u have negatives or decimals, good luck!
