Michael S. While you are correct, your sentence is incorrect. (Just “have” and then a comma would never exist). It would be more like, while you said “movies has taught me one thing.” You instead need to put “movies have taught me one thing.” This wasn’t an attack at the so called “grammar police.”

Conversely, it just takes one reality to go out to cause all of them to go out. It's a paradox of things that exist across multiple realities. If it happens in one reality, it happens in all of them. If it doesnt happen in one reality, it doesnt happen in any of them.

I think the last group she managed to find and infiltrate did just that, they stayed in. I could be wrong, though. It appears they didn't have any bizarre things happen to them and they never left, hence why they all seem not weirded out by the night before's events. That is until that one guy gets a call from his girlfriend while the alternate reality one is standing there in front of him.

something i also noticed is that there's a conversation in the beginning between Beth and Lee, where Beth asks Lee where she got the plant and Lee answers that it's from a store called Galaxy. and then some other time in the movie Em hears they have the same conversation. she is at a different house than she was in the beginning.

This is legit one of the best "one room" movies. They managed to write such a interesting and complex plot that mostly happens inside a single house. I remember watching it not knowing about any spoilers and I had an amazing time, and often I thought about the plot long after I was done watching the movie.

Every time a decision is made where there are multiple variables, it’s splits the reality. Glow sticks split it by 3 for example. The fact Amir brought up putting a random item in the box, means there really are infinite realities present. Every decision to go outside, make a blackmail plan, when you turn on the generator…all splits reality. Hugh’s brother was right. Stay inside. Ride it out. What a fun movie

You could actually see someone from another reality (Green 40:27) spying on the blue house through the window a little after the first blackout , and I also believe Amir and Laura already walked through the dark space before entering the house. That's why she didn't know that he was on the show Roswell, and her character in the beginning doing Yoga, but another version of Laura mentioned Yoga towards the end of the movie.

Well we're clued into this detail because her phone cracks before she arrives at the house. Besides that, there's a deeper, fundamental aspect about freewill at play here; suppose that in the house the observer is in, they all decide that the best decision is for everyone to stay in the house and not fuck around with the dark zone at all, because this guarantees that they, at least, will remain in the same reality from whence they came. Fine. That's logical. So doesn't doing this therefor guarantee that in at least one of the other realities, the people in _that_ house didn't agree to all stay where they were at? After all, if there was no difference between realities, then there wouldn't be a different house for this to be considered at all about. But, there's definitely parallel realities crossing. Therefor any decision to all stay at the house must summon its paradoxical opposite from across the dark zone. Ergo you're fucked either way. That's the one thing that all realities have in common, during this celestial event.

My first though is that they should've gotten a rope, long hose, tied sheets together, etc and tie it to their front fence or something before walking away from their house, this way the rope would lead them exactly back to where they came from, and if the rope or whatever they used got cut off in the dark area, that'd mean they passed realties and it's impossible to get back to your own. Or if they were smart, just stay tf inside lol, who really would go check on a neighbour with power? One benefit of good low budget movies is that they really have to rely on the storyline, possibly more than higher budget films. They have less to work with, so it appears they focus heavily the on storyline. Although, the visuals and settings for the low budget film The Void was really phenomenal; the monsters were all handmade, which beats CGI in the horror genre.

@@TurnipCart I totally agree with your assessment. The bigger the production company, the more likely you are to have producers meddling with the end product. Money talks, quality is a secondary consideration. That is the reason why I am way more drawn to indie movies lately. I think the entire movie is supposed to be a metaphor for looking back at life and wondering how different your life would be if you made different choices. In the beginning, there’s a big emphasis on the dancer girl when she told everyone that her big moment was basically stolen. She looks like she regrets it so much. Later in the film, a guy says “what if we’re the bad version of ourselves all along” and that’s when the dancer girl goes to find a better version of herself. In the ending, she’s wearing the fake ring and all seems well until the husband gives her real ring to her. This sort of breaks the illusion that this is her life. Then he gets the call and she’s left there with that reality check. Basically, the movie is saying it’s pointless thinking about the what ifs in life since you can never escape from the reality of the situation.

One Key point I caught that I think is very important is the last house Emily finds you can hear them asking what they would do in Vietnam. So in that house, it appears she agreed to go on the trip with her boyfriend. There is a theory that every single time you have the opportunity to make a choice there are parallel realities for every possible choice or outcome. So it almost seems like the nightmare reality is because she was indecisive and didn’t go but at the end when she finds the house that seems happy and fairly normal, she did decide to go. Just a thought my peeps
@Fettsomf
@Fettsomf Жыл бұрын
It`s a well known theory, and I like it. Based a short story about it at school. Yes, you`re right. Our Emily (the _main_ protagonist in this story) wished for a better life and was willing to commit murder for it in her search for the perfect reality. So to the other Emily our Emily was pure nightmare. We know she wasn`t completely evil, but yet she ended up being the "dark version" of herself.

There was also the first transference where Amir and Laurie arrived late after the comet started passing. Hence the Roswell/gig discussion. So from the beginning the dinner party was already f-d up with even our original Amir and Laurie being from another reality.

Emily 1 (the one from the opening) got the good ending, she removed the sweater from Emily 2 when she dumped her in the trunk. The movie switches to Emily 3 who didn't take the sweater she gets the bad ending, she didn't remove the sweater from Emily 2 while she was in the trunk. Which leads to a reality that branches out where Emily 4 gets created (the Emily crawling towards the bathroom) Emily 4 gets dumped in the tub than disappears due to having no contact with anyone other than Emily 3 before the comet passed. Emily 2 stays in the trunk and doesn't disappears due to having contact with the others when we first see her on the couch. Since in this reality Emily 3 didn't take Em 2s sweater she was able to regain conscious and use her phone which I'm assuming this Emily's phone didn't crack. So to sum it up, the ending is showing us Emily 3s ending and not the OG Emily we've been watching since the beginning.

The movie implied that every possibility and action that a character wanted to take actually happened in one of the realities. So that means the guy who wanted to kill everyone to end it actually did that in one of the realities right?

What's odd though. If Emily 2 woke up in the shower, wouldn't she have immediately exposed Emily prime? Why did she wake up after being attacked, see herself on the couch leave the home for whatever reason without ever telling anyone what happened?

I don't think the Emily on the phone is the one who was murdered. After being murdered, her ring was taken by the original Emily who still had it at the end. The fact she was handed a second identical ring by Lee is supposed to imply she woke up in a different world after passing out I think... The look on Lee's face is supposed to be shock at hearing the voice of a second Emily, but not necessarily the one murdered in the shower. That's my take.

The one who gave the ring to Emily at the end was Kevin(her bf) I think he found the ring from the bathroom beside the toilet where Emily dropped/lost it

@@PunkingtonGrunge For me, that theory is completely far-fetched. By that time, the meteor had passed. And if her other self _was_ murdered, then who got rid of the body? But okay. Since it's evidently open to interpretations, which people take advantage of by interpreting it in all possible directions, who knows? One thing is certain: one interpretation is not necessarily better than another.

It’s incredible that, judging by what possibly happened at the end, Prime Emily wasn’t able to truly get rid of Double Emily. And Double Emily was determined. Call me crazy but perhaps, unlike the other universes, the last universe we see Prime Emily enter into is where everyone is allowed to stay together in this universe because they stayed in the house together. After Prime Emily had attacked and knocked out her double, it turns out that Double Emily was still able to stay in that universe when she stumbled back into the house to where Prime Emily had to knock her out again. And the very last scene shows that Prime Emily still couldn’t get rid of Double Emily judging by the revelation that Double Emily called her boyfriend to alert him about her other self in their reality and he looks at Prime Emily with suspicion.

This movie makes a really good statement about xenophobia. Even though the characters know _literally everything_ about the outsiders, they still respond with paranoid hostility. And that alone is the source of all their conflict.
@Gabreya
@Gabreya 4 жыл бұрын
+Malachi Hormel Good point. Also, if you don’t mind me adding, the fact that the Emily we follow throughout the film tried to kill the double Emily from the last universe to take her place shows how selfishness and deception also play major roles. Throughout most of the film, Emily was seemingly the only one who had a good head on her shoulders while the others devolved into, as you said, paranoid hostility because of the revelation that there are other versions of themselves out there due to the comet situation and they didn’t know how to deal with that. However, it ultimately turns out that she was no better since she tried to take another person’s life for her own selfish reasons, even if that other person is another version of her. In fact, in someways, she was worse because she was willing to kill and deceive. Yes, the others from her universe (and possibly some of the other universes) were basically xenophobic concerning the other versions of them and had basically revealed their true characters when they couldn’t comprehend on how to deal with the other versions. But she was willing to do something evil in order to get out of this situation. Especially, when she saw how in the last universe, everyone got along just fine and stayed in the house together to get through what was going on. Unfortunately for her, it ultimately didn’t work because now she’s a stranger in a new universe and, due to what she did to that universe’s Emily, in a whole lot of trouble.

I see your point but these circumstances are incredibly complex. The idea of meeting......me......does not sound that good. Something about the context of it sends shivers down my spine. On the other hand if I met 4 mes I'd probly be the least lonely I've ever been. Regardless there are theories about what causes the unsettling "uncanny" feeling we get from humanoid but not human things when we look at them. I think something primal and biological about us makes us uncomfortable with the concept of finding another version of ourselves. It's almost like a failsafe system. As if put there for a reason.

The comet creates a portal to an infinite number of alternate realities. Who knows why, its a movie. There is a "darker space" down the street where the portal starts. When the power goes out, hugh goes down the street to use the landline of the "lit up" house (which is alt reality mikes house). There is an original "Mikes house" and original characters that start the movie. Throughout the film, almost all of them get switched with different versions of themselves due to passing through the portal. Em hated her current life and wanted a better reality, so she purposefully goes through the portal, wandering around to find a better reality. In the end Em tries to replace herself in a "better" reality. The Em-2 escapes and calls the boyfriend; he realizes there are now two Ems somehow. End of movie.
