I love you so much for mentioning Gothic, Cohh. Gothic 2 especially is one of my favorite games of all time and my childhood with it is probably one of the main reasons why I treasure rewarding exploration and also meaningful and palpable progression in games so much.

Really liked your explanation/comparison to Gothic. Oblivion, if I remember correctly, was fully level scaled - all enemies matched the player level at all times, thus defeating the purpose of the character progression system. It was kind of ridiculous. In Skyrim and Starfield the level scaling is lessened, but the player is so powerful from the start that it might as well still be there.

Yeah, in the end you could fight bandits fully decked out in Daedric armor. It's kinda stupid. One of the reasons why I don't like Bethesda anymore is their games feel so shallow and casualized from an RPG standpoint. Cohh's explanation was spot-on. Gothic 2 is maybe my favorite RPG.

I rage quit this game like 4 times since I first started playing it a few days ago…and yet I keep coming back to it for some reason. Am I sped??

No, it was only on my FOURTH save file that I fully beat the game but I'm so glad I did. The writing and characters are so much fun and once you get used to the combat and gameplay, it's really nice actually.
