If Staley was brought in by Shanahan to help out Sorensen in Sorensen's first season as a DC, where was Staley when Sorensen kept defending Campbell's performance when every analyst (and his dog) said Campbell was severely underperforming on the 49ers' defense. If Shanahan promotes Staley to DC (which is very likely since this is the easiest path for Shanahan), 49ers will miss the 2025 playoffs and Staley will be sacrificed as the reason for the failure - just like Wilks and Sorensen before him. Meanwhile Shanahan gets to keep his HC job because he is a very good buddy of Jed's.

I think he was helping the Defensive Backs as their coach. DBs improved quite a bit this last season imo.

@@aTofuJunkie We have a DB coach and, as far as I know, Staley was not working with DBs, at least during open practice. Pretty sure Staley was brought in to help with scheme, especially blitz packages, which were terrible this year and defensive play calling. He was, publicly, MIA, and if he was doing something behind the scenes, it didn't work. He should be held accountable for our defensive failures just like the DC, especially considering the DC was a first year coordinator and it was his job to be by his side and be a second pair of eyes and ears. Either he sabotaged the DC, or he is incompetent. Either way, he should not be the next DC; he probably shouldn't stay on at all. We needed a change, but he is the last person we should look to

What about bringing in Ephraim Banda for an interview for the DC job? He is currently the safeties coach in Cleveland under Jim Schwartz. He was previously the DC at Utah State and then he left college football to join Jim Schwartz when he was hired in Cleveland. Banda has already had a couple of interviews for DC. He is in his early 40's, he has been a DC in college, and he is comfortable running the Wide 9 seeing as he works for Jim Schwartz. What could it hurt to give Ephraim Banda an interview?

Can we for once get a DC who isn’t afraid of blitzing and actually knows what a goal line defense looks like? Btw with all the needs on this defense going after corner is probably the most useless move we can make. You rebuild the defense in the box and that makes life easier for the corners. You don’t build your defense by getting more corners.

It's not going to happen and if this organization was serious, they would have moved some of the players 2 years ago but are now stuck with them. They are at least 2 to 3 years if ever away from contention if they draft and sign right, but they can't seem to do that either with a DC. Like I said they need a GM that can overlook Kyle's judgment and work with him but not let him screw himself. Carrol was not relevant towards the end of his career and not a trend setter.
