This is one of the few okito box routines that doesn't feel 100 years old. Such an innovative and clever use of an old prop.

This was great. Engaging and fooling. I just watched a goldsmith lecture about this premise. Coin magic needs a story..when it's just moves it lacks a magical feel. This felt so unforced and surprising. I'll be supporting this effort and dusting off my Boston.

Very nice. Well done and a fresh look at the Okito. I make my own and for friends. Two matched Boston boxes are good for having coins go back and forth. Three of them adds an element of cups and balls. You adding the bag to the routine is a great twist. The classic Okito still has some life in it. Keep up the good videos.

Rick, I've been trying to view all of your postings and I think I missed this one. I have a steampunk box and the lid is as deep as the box and I don't know why. Anyway, I love this version of yours. How you are confused with the directions... it's funny and makes this so entertaining. This is my kind of magic. Dude, I'm going to study and perfect this (as you have.) I am so happy I ran across this. It's 6:30 AM and you've already made my day:-) So, what's with the deep lid on mine? I could have a friend mill mine down but I thought I'd check with you first. As always, thanx for the superb video... you're the best, -keith

I picked up my first coin box in 1977. Yes, that’s right, I’m old. lol Five years later I started working at a magic and costume shop which I managed for over 30 years. The Johnson Products Okorto Set was hands down my favorite box but finding a good routine was challenging at best. You’ve put together a very solid routine filled with misdirection, subtleties and a good story line. I like it when someone takes a piece of “Classic Magic” and reinvents it to the point at which they own it. And you have, nice job! Wes

@@RickHolcombe You are welcome. I learned Coin Magic at a young age, and sometimes wished someone could show me the proper way to do it. I was lucky that a bit later on, I met a man who was very good at it, and he helped me make it look more natural, similar to what you are doing. I am watching your video about the French Drop right now, and like how you are re-teaching this much maligned move. I learned it similar to the way you perform it. Keep up the good work!

Rick, I purchased the okito Box off of amazon . It arrived in a box with the okito box in a little bag and a slip of paper with an address to watch the video on KZbin on how to use the oketo box. KZbin says the video is unavailable. I tried to get that on my cell phone. Is it blocked from being viewed on cell phones and do you have to use a regular laptop or tabletop computer to be able to see the video. Can you shed some light on how I can view the video that I was supposed to be able to view through the address received on the slip of paper in the illusion. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have learned much through watching your videos. Your presentations and explanations contain valuable information. Thanks so much for your videos

Great routine, thank you. I have always loved the confused magician concept (think Mario Lopez), and this one is really good. I hate boxes in magic, and I specifically hate the Okito. Always thought it was just a lame one trick pony, but you made great use of it. For me it would still be a lame gimmick, but this just goes to show that the gimmick is only as good, or bad, as the magician.

Is this routine written up anywhere?.. The first box routine I find really worth learning.
@RickHolcombe so i was looking through my computer and realized i bought this trick from you a little over two years ago. I just never actually owned an okito or boston until a couple weeks ago. I guess i can finally start practicing. I was also wondering if you know anything about the dg retention or have any variants for it?
@RickHolcombe Жыл бұрын
I always use my take on the classic version. Learn it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGXFgHhqgbFgadE In my opinion, there is WAY too much emphasis put on this style of vanish. Just do it smoothly, we don't need 7 variations that vary by half a milimeter.
@swashbuckle9856 Жыл бұрын
@@RickHolcombe i agree, but i also believe the addition of variations inevitably leads to a new sleight. I say this as a complete novice though.
