It'll never stop being funny to me how overly positive the 'official' coin grades sound. For example "Good" condition is actually really bad 😂

Thought this many times! From UNC down to Fine the grades do the job imo. Then probably VG should become W (worn), G could become R (rubbish), Fair should be A (awful) and Poor could be D (Diabolical) ... so WRAD ... or maybe Worn, 'Orrid, Rubbish & No-point (the WORN grades). As things stand, many professional dealers seem to grade everything worse than Fine as Fair, since as you imply the other sub-Fine grades are rather misleading.

I am not a coin collector but I do have a very good condition 1902 I found between 2 kitchen floorboards when I lifted some old lino of an old country house here in Australia.

I went to check my Edwardian Pennies, no special varieties found. Happy to have a good quality 1902,1903,1904, 1907, 1909 and 1910. Good ones are not easy to find. Thanks for this video, much appreciated.

I first started collecting old pre decimal coins, mainly pennies in 1966 aged 11 years. Due to various factors, like serving in Her Majesty's Armed Forces I lost touch. Nowadays I collect 50p pieces but also have many coins from across the world. Coins from Africa, like Kenya, that have holes in the middle, presumably because most Kenyans of the period didn't have pockets, so kept their money on string necklaces! I have a number of obtainable tools I use to determine dates on coins that some collectors may find helpful. Two I use a lot are ... a basic magnifying glass, though the better the quality, the better the view. And I got myself a basic battery operated microscope for looking at faded areas. And finally an ultraviolet light that I use on bank notes to ascertain if they're authentic or just " monopoly" money. There's an acid test that can "bring forth" dates of coins, but, well it's an acid, say no more! Hope this helps fellow collectors.😊

Hi Paul, can you or one of your followers tell me if a 1909 reverse E is worth more than a 1902 low tide penny? In the late 1970's I bought a UNC 1902 low tide penny off of SPINK, no idea what it's worth today but I won't sell it anyway. My fist time hearing of this 1909 variety, thanks!

Hi Peter. An UNC 1902 low tide is selling for around £100. An UNC 1909 Reverse E would be over ten times that., about £1,100

Hi Paul, just found you & have subbed. As a lad in the 50's & 60's l collected coins from change. All pennies & 1/2p's from 1860. All silver from early to 1946. Still have to this day!! The 2 best finds were a 1953 penny and 1871 1/2p. (also 1952 6p). The 1871 1/2p was mint which l stupidly sold in the 70's for £15!! Cheers, John.

Hi Rowena, Cleaning old coins might seem like a good way to revitalise the appearance of a treasured item, but could in fact reduce a coin's value significantly, and should be avoided. Particularly in the case of old precious metal coins, cleaning them is most definitely not recommended.
