Pure acetone will take that goo off without harming the coin.

All very well but what to do when Vic pennies refuse to fit into the provided Whitman spaces? I'm afraid of bending any such coin trying to get it/them to 'place' !
@suzyqualcast62699 сағат бұрын
I realise this has been up a while, but you're the go to for coin detail - may I please ask, and it's with regard to an in rather nice nick 1896 penny, and 'cleaning' : mine has nasty blackish, almost greasy grime all around the 'teeth' indents and around the lettered detail on both sides. It's fairly easily dislodged by gentle teasing with a cocktail stick. Would you still advise this ionised water/soft plastic bristle brush tactic to dislodge said grime, without actually shining/brightening up the coin itself in any way ? Thank you.

Hi I have a query! I have a Mary Rose £2 coin and it has no inscription on it? How much would that be? I looked it up on the internet and it said that no errors had been filed by the mint?

Been really enjoying the videos and I've now started adding to my collection with some junk shop finds. Also, checked my own childhood collection and it appears I have a 1915 recessed ear with the broken tooth. Unfortunately 10 year old me gave it a bit of a polish.

Nice to see so many Victorian pennies. I was rooting for an 1869 penny to pop up. But you have done so well to fill that many dates in the board for two videos

That's what I did mate there where only a few people new to look for before internet so boots sales where a treasure hunt to people that read books 😅👍

Another super video Paul. I have yet to expand my coin collection into the Victorian era and would be interested in the opinion of others. Is it best to build up a date run by buying job lots (e.g. from eBay) of coins of indeterminant condition, or just wait for the chance to buy 'nicer', relatively unworn examples, being prepared to have many gaps for a much longer period of time?

Amazing stuff! I am however not sure about your statement that videos should not be numbered. Rather, if I find a numbered video, I immediately know there's more to watch, which is usually a good thing for me

This variety also occurs on the half penny and shilling of 1911.... The kings head appears to be in slightly higher relief .. only found one 1911 penny with the hollow neck ....

Ha.... I've got two.. 1935 and 36. But I'm American and my mother was English. Oops 1882 h not 1881. But I thought the last Trident touching tooth was the other variety. Key would be the size of the 'tooth', much larger on that one.

No one would blame you for swapping out any of these coins on the board for any in worse condition from your petsonal collection! So if that 1896 is better than yours, I say go for it!😊

That bag of Vickys certainly made some big strides in filling those gaps. And I think the dirty mug got neglected as there were some worthy coins to go into it! 😁

I was hoping some would be in nicer condition, but it wasn't too bad. Yes, I'll have to sort the dirty ones I missed and put them in the mug
