A Women and Home magazine from July 1948. This was the month The NHS began. Lots of old advets and prices. What did things cost back then?

My ears pricked up when I heard Vernon’s Pool’s, haven’t thought about them since my dear mum was trying to find eight score draws out of ten. Always good to watch & you’re right, the adverts were the highlight

Neat to see a magazine from 1948. The products featured were not familiar to me as also being used in the US. Some would be illegal today, I imagine, like the Mackenzie Smelling Bottle. Interesting take on how much things cost then. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations on 22,222 subscribers and interesting to see the magazines. I collect (in addition to British coinage) 17th to 19th century British and Irish newspapers (the adverts can be quite amazing), and as if that wasn't enough, I also collect the Police Gazette 19th and 20th century (criminals and deserters) . I have in the region of ("cough") 100,000 examples. And all started with a couple of newspapers 24 years ago ... Look forward to the next video

Good trip down memory lane. Funny to see the items that are not PC today but were common when I was growing up. Enjoyed. Kiwi19 🇳🇿

Although I was born late 50's, it was probably early 60's that I remember my mum used to have collecting cards for those dividend stamps, as well as doing the same for Green Shield stamps (remember those?). I think the little cards inside the tea were very collectible. I recall them doing types of ships on them like the Great Eastern, Cutty Sark etc.

love seeing all these old products, probably a lot of substances being used that wouldnt be allowed today, just on the toilet tissue, my grandad use to cut his old newspapers into squares , put a hole in the corner and hang them from a piece of string in the loo for you know what. he was still doing this well into the 1970s .probably got used to it in the war with rationing and didnt want to change .

Very interesting. I remember an add on TV You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent. Knight's Castille (pronounced Castil) was a bar of soap. Ribena used to be called a natural health drink. I wonder what the average wage was in 1948?

'One and a penny' - never heard 'one and one'.

Definitely "one and one" from my neck of the woods. I suppose it depends which part of the country people are from. "One and a penny" seems a bit long winded. I never heard anyone say that.

@@CoinPatrol One and a penny in London. I vaguely recall it was always "and a penny" whatever the amount in shillings.

Love the Brooke Bond ad❤ I only drink tea if it's made with proper tea leaves ( bags 🤮) and made in a teapot and drunk from a china cup and saucer ❤ great video Paul 👍

Wincarnis Original Tonic Wine 75cl Wincarnis Original Tonic Wine; An intriguing blend of malt extract, enriched wine and a heady combination of botanicals, this is a popular drink in Jamaica. A request!! Can you do a video about Crowns?...I've noticed that they produced them yearly up to 1934...but really low mintage...what was that about? and then 1935...and then sort of sporadically...with 1953...1960...1965 etc etc...I need to know about crowns!!! Are they worth collecting...are they difficult to find? I do see them from time to time but don't know what they are really...I have the later fellas...but then they seem to be at every car boot in the world.

Hi Coin Patrol I was looking for 1 of your farthing hunts the ones where you taught us how to make your boards and also about a really rare farthing. This video is about 1 year and ten months old as I remembered watching it in the August of 2022. I have tried looking for it but nothing came up. Can you clarify on what happened to this video? Thanks Alec ❤

You were posh if you could afford Tootal shirts or you just had the one for Sunday best. This was the time still for home remedies (medicine) rather than a doctor. Rationing was still in force in 1948 & the average household spent 1/4 of their income on rent & a 1/4 on food.

Random question, why do the boards only go from 1860 and not earlier
@CoinPatrol

The bronze pennies first started in 1860. Before that pennies were bigger and made from solid copper. Most of them were melted down in the 1860's
