Best comment on this thread! I can't tell one from the other. Even though all these young ladies are obviously very talented, there seems to be nothing unique about their delivery/style. I'm an older cat, probably 20/30 years older than the wonderful people on this thread. With that said, In my heyday, you could instantly tell Aretha from Gladys. Tell Diana from Patti, and so on. When you heard one of their new songs on the radio, you didn't have to find out who was singing. You instantly knew, yo, Patti's got a new song out, Chaka's got a new song out, etc...No hate, because I love some of what I hear from some of these new artists, but I honestly can't distinguish quite often. Many of them kinda...sound the same. Right now, I'm living for Nicole Bus. I'm interested in seeing what she has coming down the pike!

Michael Jackson in his adult age didn't have strong pipes either but was still a great singer because he focused on the melody of his vocals than his power. Most of today's singers are not great singers overall, not in power, technique or melody, their just nothing special about their singing. SWV, is one of the best groups of the 90's. Most of these young ladies sound the same, and are not on the level as some artists like, Jill Scott, Ledisi, India.Arie, La La Hathaway, and Faith Evans. Queen Naija, has a strong voice and will get better in the future. Sister Taylor ain't nothing to sleep on with her beautiful Alto voice. H.E.R is one of my favorite, though!

We're missing power house voices, amazing harmonies and honestly I remember soooo many amazing female artists and girl groups from the 90's-2000's but it's not many to choose from today. From Whitney, Janet, 702, SWV, TLC, Mariah, Deborah Cox...I mean we can list like 20 more TOP black female artist with powerful voices and different sounds. Today there is this alternative R&B sound that i think started with The Weeknd and never left with only a handful of female artists. I like it, though it carries many depressive spirits, gotta be careful of that. However, there needs to be more balance, as well as more complex and powerful sounds.
