Sir to describe The Lion of Ladakh. Three words are difficult to state. The ones which I can describe are People's Leader - Leaders are not just forged but are born as well. He is not just the leader of his men but also people who got inspired by him in the place he was in Hadanbrok. And places he travelled. Down to earth- Such a down to earth and such a humble person his heart is not just made of steel but also dipped in honey. Coordination and planning skills - when he planned the attack through the pass and leading with his men to not just rescue his men who were under attack in the adam base in Chorbatla that takes a lot of planning and courage to relay his orders. He is a very genuine human being when he took advice from his men that is how planning should be done and the way they attacked one of his JCOs was Tshering Stopdan who played a major role in the attack and recapture of Chorbatla. There are very few officers or leaders who turn out like him That is why I can fill up the entire pages in detail but word limit wouldn't permit me. Being an ex army asperaint and have been in the NCC sir I can recollect my experiences with the ragra from the instructors from the Assam Rifles during some of the camps. They are so down to earth and Col Wangchuk served with them is a learning for a lifetime Jai hind

Our Lion of Ladakh Col Sonam Sir is so humble , for me with the experience of duties in Assam , Siachin and during shrilanka operations against ltte He became a live war machine , His bold decision of taking offence to the enemy post surely tell us about His guts , experience , leadership ability and tectics that our officer own . Every thing he told is like a video , so clear , so smart yet He is feeling Himself and his buddies doing normal operation . His Holiness the Dalai Lama has special affinity with armed forces personal. Not only his residence in Dharamsala is in close proximity to army bases, but he does make visits to border areas where his followers live in Himalayan Buddhist belt and meets top military brass who comes for blessings. The immense respect shown by Col Sonam To His superior officer is beautiful and missing in most of us today. I think we should push for making short service commission compulsory for every one. this exercise will surely straighten out a majority of people remove the unnecessary immature ego we all carry around and also there will always be a rotation of military population and can be called upon when needed. But most importantly this exercise will induce much needed discipline.
