Danny Trejo is a treasure. During the height of the pandemic, he used his food trucks to go to hospitals in and around LA to feed hospital workers. And participated regularly. A lovely man. 💚💜 Also, his food and donuts are delicious 😊

The first time I saw Danny Trejo in person was when he showed up to my Narcotics Anonymous meeting, it was my first attempt wanting to get sober so I had to go up and get a welcome chip when they announced if there was any newcomers to the meeting. When I stood up, I could hear his voice cheering me on. He’s a great human being. To my knowledge, not many celebrities would show up to an NA meeting after getting sober. A memorable experience.
@deftones8717 Жыл бұрын
That’s awesome bro! Says a lot about him.. most celebrities let the fame get to their heads and would feel like they’re too superior to attend meetings with us regular folk. He obviously doesn’t forget where he came from and doesn’t hide his past. But yeah, more importantly, congratulations to you on your sobriety man! I too am in recovery. Spent nearly half my life as a slave to heroin and crack.. I wouldn’t wish addiction on my worst enemy. I am so grateful that I didn’t wake up this morning to an instantaneous, dreadful feeling of impending doom.. utter hopelessness… contemplating suicide… and knowing I have to face another day of scheming, lying, and stealing in order to get my fix and not be sick. Just 6 years ago I was sleeping on subways in Harlem, waking up with crowds of “normal” people surrounding me, in their suits and ties, commuting to work.. and I felt like a complete loser.. looking totally emaciated, dirty, and disheveled.. I envied them so much… but instead of going to work, I would go to steal sh!t and panhandle. In and out of jail constantly, and countless institutions. What a life! Danny Trejo lived a similar lifestyle.. that’s why he’s so real and down to earth. He has lived on both sides of the tracks, and he must feel incredibly grateful to have turned his life around to such an extent, and to have achieved so much success and wealth. Gives guys like us hope. Cuz though I’ve been clean for several years now, I’m still really struggling with depression, and I haven’t achieved financial stability and success regarding a career. I am still lost and am learning how to live and function like normal people do. Responsibility isn’t exactly my strong suit. I’m working on it though… but I need to stop dwelling on what I don’t have, and be grateful for what I do have, and for the fact that I am no longer a slave to drugs. Anyway, sorry for the rant and for making it about myself.. just needed to vent a bit I guess. I hope you are doing well in your recovery bro!

I love that he serves non-alcoholic drinks at his restaurant. My Sister & I are both Diabetic, & it is a pain in the arse trying to explain to people WHY we don't drink alcohol. I started telling people I was a recovering alcoholic just so that they would stop saying, "One drink won't kill you." I told my Sister what I was doing & she started saying the same thing. It's no one's business WHY you don't drink alcohol.

Well, remember: Danny was a late bloomer in the acting biz. Before that, he was a hoodlum, then a convict and boxer, then an extra and consultant, then finally an actor. He was never the golden boy. He probably never forgets where he came from, and what astounding luck he has had.

@@myrafinch5769 thank you so much for your kind words. I don’t know why I randomly typed such a long, personal comment earlier..and I know it comes off as a bit unhinged.. but for some reason, occasionally I just use the comment section to vent.. I never expect anyone to actually read my long ramblings, and unfortunately if/when someone does reply, it’s usual someone talking sh!t about addicts, or addiction in general, or just being cruel for absolutely no reason. This world is real messed up sometimes.. especially online, where people feel safe and free to express their true feelings. A lot of judgement and hatred in this world. I say all this to say, that it’s nice and refreshing when a kind person such as yourself comes around. Thank you for your support and compassion! Also, AGAIN I type an entire essay! 😆 I type fast and don’t even realize it! sorry!!

When Danny Trejo shared his story, one common theme - and conclusion - emerged: *education has the power to change lives.* *“Education is the key to anything you want to do - anything,” Trejo said.* “Do you understand what education can do for your life?” And while Trejo acknowledges he’s an unlikely ambassador for academics, he has witnessed firsthand how an education changes everything. _“It took me a long time to learn (the value of education),”_ he said. _“But... you even need a high school diploma to get a good assignment in the penitentiary.”_ And that's what the GOP wants to take away/withold from you.
