Jon was a frequent guest on Stepohen's old show, on Comedy Central. They became friends back then and when Stephen got the CBS gig, he begged Jon to be the music director. Jon is a brilliant Julliard trained musician and was doing quite well on his own, but he couldn't refuse the offer. I think he's great in the show. New Orleans folk are loud like that!

Eduardo Daniel Kucharsky Terrazas you do know, they are recording the show and some bits a few times until they are good enough. If Colbert wouldn't have been OK with Jon's laugh, I imagine they would have done a second take.

I just LOVE Jon Batiste. He grew up with his musical family in Louisiana...singing, playing any instrument from age 3. He is about the only thing my god daughters and I have in common! (“Oh Auntie Helen!!”) He’s also a Julliard grad and seems to be by everyone’s account the nicest guy in the world!
