@outlanderfrog6 жыл бұрын
@@tokenasian1 He sometimes interrupts and moves on while guests are about to, or even in the middle of, saying something that I'm really interested in hearing. Bugs me. The best will always be Johnny Carson, IMO. He knew when to step back and get out of the guests way, and when to help them along.
@Mallen151 Жыл бұрын
@@tokenasian1 I could be wrong but I get the sense that Colbert is great at talking about things that he’s interested in. That leads to great interviews when he finds something that both he and the guest appreciate. I have also seen guests where he isn’t able to find it which is usually fine but can be awkward. I get the sense that Conan will usually just let the guest talk. If he does chime in, it’s usually to make a quick joke or to call out the guest for being a jerk. I personally think that which one is “better” just depends on your preference! ☺️

Some info with which to ponder and enlighten. There is an excerpt from an article about the musical that beautifully sums up Lin-Manuel Miranda's reasoning behind that inspiration. "But history belongs to those who write it, and with the hit Broadway show Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda is rewriting the Founding Father narrative to purposefully reflect the kind of country we live in today. Choosing to cast the founders of our country as people of color may not be “historically” accurate, but it is culturally accurate as a reflection of a 21st century nation built by immigrants. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s version of history suddenly becomes an inclusive one, inviting every American to see his or herself reflected in the story of the Founding Fathers. "

@paisleigh19896 жыл бұрын
@cannotthinkofaname we don't actually see it as that scandalous. Of course it isn't mundane but not that surprising. the reason is because in British pantomine, they overact a lot and the audience comedically goes oooh, its kinda tradition now and that itself is funny to us so i'm guessing we just automaticalluy do it now and it makes us laugh. Also makng fun of the royal family, thats fucking funny to us, we all do it everyday, keeps us thinking they are normal people and so makes what they do normal as well
@prigg886 жыл бұрын
@@MC-jr1bs Divorce stats are up here as well but you seem to be implying that divorce means someone cheated on another person, which I would argue isn't necessarily the case. I would disagree that it isn't scandalous. Its something that would get a politician in trouble and would be seen as a scandal. Also in our version of DWTS, Strictly Come Dancing there was furore over one of the contestants simply snogging his dance partner whilst both were in relationships. If we can agree that something is a scandal that is morally wrong. Could we agree that cheating on someone is also morally wrong, regardless of how common it is? Also, I've got the soundtrack and heard it in this video and didn't react even though I'm British so I think part of it as much as anything is to do with in British theatres we play along more, we have more fun in a theatre if we play along in pantomimes as well as other plays and musicals.

And I'm not a huge carpool karaoke fan (I mean, it's cool; but I've only seen a few... I've probably watched that single one more than all others combined!); I'm not really a 'celebrity' person generally, but he just comes across as someone you'd like to know & have great conversations with - anywhere I've seen him speak, from PR hurricane fundraising to actual sit down interviews, he always seems the same. (I've not really seen them all! 😉) I' think I'll now follow him on twitter & hope for some beautiful 'twitter poetry' like that - he even makes friends that way! What amazing departure from 'twitter norm' in every way! As a linguist (& younger than he is), I also appreciate his artistic, somehow soothing vocabulary. I can also assure you I know many young philologists - not a dying breed. ☺ , (And for the love of words, may I recommend Alexander McCall Smith's '44 Scotland Street' & 'The Sunday Philosophy Club'/ Isabel Dalhousie series. He is a man who makes words dance on the page. Also, Jasper Fforde's 'Thursday Nsxt' series - a completely different kind of wordsmith, absolutely in a league of his own.)

Honestly, not knowing American history is almost a plus going in to the musical. No spoilers. I remember the first time I heard Guns & Ships, I was getting hyped for who was about to be introduced, expecting it to be Hamilton. When 'Lafayette' was sung, I literally shouted 'who the f is THAT?! It should be Hamilton!'. Which I've since been told is likely a direct quote from Alexander Hamilton.

What words has he invented
@aeringothyk54456 жыл бұрын
geoff mcclelland Shakespeare didn’t really invent any words. He added unusual prefixes or suffixes to already existing words, or slightly altered existing words. For example, he is credited with Lonely, using -ly instead of -some in the usual lonesome how many would use for heavenly. He mainly did this because ly was often the proper stress for his pentameter scheme, and Un- as a prefix was used by Shakespeare a lot to alter existing words to fit his schemes. But as far as inventing completely unique never before seen words, no. They’re all existing words with a slight twist. Same as a regular joe saying “Yeah the line was slowish.” Not inventing a word, slanging an already existing word.
