What's even crazier is that the Black-British experience has not been nearly the same as the African-American experience. Blacks in Britain didn't endure over 360 years of slavery, and then several more decades of their basic human rights limited or denied. Yes, they casted a BRITISH black actor and you would've never known the difference.
@elhadjiamadoujohnson41667 жыл бұрын
nahor88 America was a Briton colony. And after slavery there was something called colonization by Europeans in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, central and South America. Slavery in North America was British up to 1776.
@nahor887 жыл бұрын
I fucking HATE IT when people like you take segments of a statement and decide to reply to them because it better supports your point. Did Blacks in Britain ever go through anything like the Civil Rights movement? Were they enslaved NEARLY AS LONG as African-Americans? No shit slavery existed in Britain at one point, but don't try to equate it to American slavery. And I don't know why you even brought up the colonization of those countries, it's outside the argument as we're strictly discussing African-American vs Black Brits.

Michelle Li I noticed that some white folks think it’s not racist if what is considered the white elephant in the room gets brought up, in this case being Mexican is the white elephant. They do this thing where they bring up stuff they think I can relate too, like a Spanish restaurant they went to once... and tbh it’s not persay racist. But it is suspicious. It’s weird, and it makes me feel like the “other”; it alienates, passively.

It’s like I’m the odd one out of the bunch. All of my white friends parents do that. Even my white therapist asks me every other week about my “culture” and how it’s “different”. Just because I’m Mexican doesn’t mean I want to talk about it 24/7. I don’t ask white people about their “culture” and advice on how to make lasagna. Hey Mr. M, watch that shit anyways. Top 3 movies I've seen made in the last 10 years, really it's phenomenal. I feel like an ass given the clip but I have a rule that truly great movies must be viewed 3 times and Get Out was one such movie. First to enjoy it and allow the first impression to wash over, then to watch it more critically and compose hypotheses and lastly to test those hypotheses. I'm off for my second viewing, implications of white guilt be damned. Also the narrative was not totally reliant on assuming the girlfriend was on his side, "spoiled the entire thing" is way too strong although this was probably the second most mysterious aspect of the movie. First would be what in the fuck is actually going on here?

Birdy1116 Not all white people are like this, this is a very toxic way of thinking. This is not truth. What you say is not truth, just matter of opinion. No matter what color or religion you are from there will always be good and bad people. It's that simple. You can't judge a whole race by the actions of a few or even a lot. That's not cool tbh, that's like someone going up to you and thinking you are a thug, when you are really not. And I'm only saying that because that is a very dumb stereotype people have. I'm sure not everyone in the black community speaks for you.

+Sitting on Ceilings. A black Brit is a representative of colonial oppression?! Please crack a history book. While you are in that book have look at America's history as a colonial and imperialist oppressor. Maybe start with your history in The Philippines and Cuba.
@tomtheeagle17 жыл бұрын
+Sitting on Ceilings. He was born in England. How would you then expect him to speak? It is just how he speaks. It was not imposed. It is more likely that he is from an immigrant background (Ugandan parents) rather than someone who came to the UK as a slave. It is also true that America is not innocent of imperialist oppression. So, let he without sin cast the first stone.
@tomtheeagle17 жыл бұрын
+ Sitting on Ceilings. The history of the whole world is written in one sentence . Rich people screw over poor people. I think you may have picked a battle that you are complicating with race. I am not for one minute saying that racism, institutionalised or casual, is not a problem. But blacks oppress blacks too I am afraid. Man's inhumanity to his fellow man knows no limits unfortunately, but this is something of a tangent. The way he speaks was not imposed by anything other than the geography of where he was born. A place it seems was chosen by his parents. Good luck to you though.
@beepbeepboop9377 жыл бұрын
This is a really ignorant comment. He doesn't speak in the accent of 'colonial oppressors'. Perhaps to a non-Brit all English accents sound the same but he speaks in a very distinctive black London accent. Compare Daniel, Big Shaq & Stormzy's accents to people like Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant & Benedict Cumberbatch and perhaps you'll see what I mean. Your comment makes as much sense as saying AAVE is the accent of American colonial oppression. I get you are trying to make a (valid) critique of British colonialism but you do not need to throw Black Brits under the bus to do so.
