Hi! Check out the comments. I document how to do this with an EVO4 dash, however, same applies to your MXL Pista (which was my first dash and I loved it). The process is only really different in the fact you have to setup the Dash in RS2 and then the camera in RS3. Once they are both configured, it should work just fine.

@@JamesColborn I’m still using RS2 with various profiles for car and driver analysis in the Seat. Will be using RS3 in the new build as I’ve also got a PDM32 to install and get my head around!

I sloughed through how to set up the smartycam with the factory MXL data logger/dash before I came across this video. However, I am still having the difficulty of how to display the brake pressure with a data channel from the race car ECU through the MXL that ranges from -1.5 bar to slightly over zero. In the other words, I still can't figure out how to set up the smartycam to deal with the negative offset. I tried creating a custom sensor for it with a translation graph but still I can't find a way to deal with the -ve values. The most important thing I learnt here is don't go beyond 64GB SD card.

It sounds like you need to calibrate the sensor in Race Studio 2. This would then adjust the way the data is displayed. Not sure if you can do that in RS2 (as we've been Race Studio 3 now for such a long time) but you should be able to. You can also put in a different scale for the brake sensor when displayed on screen when you format your overlay. Your minimum would be -1.5bar (when the scale reads 0) and the bar is maxed out (at 100) at Zero bar. Hope this helps a little but I'd chat to your AiM engineer on this one if you can access one locally.

Are you connecting Race Studio 3 software to the AIM dash or the SmartyCam ECU? Its not clear in the manual for either unit. We are also attempting to connect the SmartCam GP to an MXL Pista which uses Race Studio 2. But thank you for taking the time to make and upload this video.

Hi Mark. In these instances, make sure you setup your logger/dash SmartyCam stream and update that part first. Then configure your SmartyCam and update that via Race Studio 3 (plugging in directly via USB). You must update both devices separately. Using Race Studio 2 for the Pista and Race Studio 3 for the SmartyCam is fine. All that is needed is the right SmartyCam stream of signals. Hope this helps!

Very useful, thank you. Can you provide any info about connecting SmartyCam 2.1 to an older EVO4 logger, which only runs with Race Studio 2? Can you get data overlay on a video file with Race Studio 2? I have been trying get this info from AIM, but no luck.

Hi! This is a request I get from time to time but I haven't made a video as it's the same process except for the fact you need to setup EVO4 in RS2 and SCHD2.1 in RS3. For the EVO4, in your dash configuration in Race Studio 2, click on the top row 'SmartyCam Functions Settings'. In there, nominate your channels for the SmartyCam Stream. Once done, upload to your EVO4. Making sure your SmartyCam is plugged into the Data Hub or EXP port (most likely a hub as your dash will be using the same port as the SmartyCam so you'll need a hub to connect both) you will then head to Race Studio 3 and setup your SmartyCam as per this video and upload that configuration to your SmartyCam device. Then just make sure they are all plugged in together and it should work as planned. Do let me know if this helps.

When you buy your SmartyCam I recommend confirming above with them too. Also note, I do not believe the SmartyCam 3 Sport will work (or may not be supported) with older loggers. Hopefully it is good news for you though.

Hello James. I’m not sure if I’m missing anything. How do we configure the aim smartycam 3 with rs3? How to transfer video files to the race studio? I’m kinda lost, first time using the camera, I don’t have any data recorded yet.

Hi Karthik. I have to say that I found these instructions quite useful. The process is different. You can do most of the configuration fo the SC3 by removing the Micro SD and inserting it directly into the reader slot of your PC. This will allow you to upload configurations and tracks etc. You must have configured the basics of the SC3 with the mSD card in it first. Hi Nathan. Since the launch of Race Studio 3 Analysis in the latest release, your videos show up there. This said, I am missing the video button so with your feedback here, I’m going to ask them to add it back in (if possible). On your second question, I’m afraid not. Good idea though, I’ll pass it along.

Hola. Su MyChron5S debe tener GPS integrado y, si funciona sin la cámara, funcionará CON la cámara. Si su SmartyCam 3 Sport está conectada al puerto EXP, a continuación le recomiendo una configuración completa de firmware, pistas y superposición en la cámara. There's a channel by the name of Superbike racer and he uses telemetry overlay in some of his road riding videos. I wanted to create videos like that for my coaches to see and help me . So can you please have a look and let us know how he does it , because I dont see anything attached on the handlebars

Hi! I had a look and I recommend reaching out to the channel directly as I don't recognise the setup. What I would also recommend is that you take a look at a software called 'race render' as this will allow you to upload data onto any video (like a GoPro). Lastly, if you are using a more recent GoPro (a series 6 or newer I believe) you can overlay data captured via GPS on the GoPro itself. You can get speed, map and g-force. Hope this helps.

You skipped the most basic parts, or do you have an introduction video? How are you getting all this data? Are you doing this in advance by connecting to the dash via wifi? Are you pulling the SD card, saving on the computer, and then opening that file? Will the system even log video without an SD card present? I'm 100% lost with my AIM MXS 1.2 and smarty cam hd gp 2.2 -- I spent all this money and can't even get my computer to pull a video from the system. AIM wants me to watch 10+ videos, all I want is for it to work without earning a masters degree in their technology.

Alternatively, I did a webinar on behalf of AiM Shop (in the UK) talking about configuring your SmartyCam (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXS2fKluacigiNk). The way to think about it is this. Once you've got your dash (MXS) logging data from your vehicle (basically, the dash gauges), you can send that same data to a connected SmartyCam HD to overlay on the video being recorded. That SmartyCam will need to have an SD card in it to log the sessions and configuration. Happy to help you out if you get in touch and I do hope that the webinar linked in the description helps.
