At 7:34, it sounded like he was playing a cello. This guy really has control of his instrument. He is exceptional at lead guitar. This is an excellent example of "saying something" with your guitar, instead of simply showing off your chops. He's clearly got the speed, but he is not unrestrained with it. He uses it when called for. and stays focused on the melody and the music. It always has to be about what you are playing, not just about how well you play it. I don't see enough electric guitar players express themselves uniquely, while still focusing on the music, and it's always a pleasure when I do.

Jimmy Herring has managed to carve out his own harmonic and melodic language that is uniquely, and very easily recognisably HIM. Not many people can do that. Hats off to the man. His playing straddles the fine line between technique and soul beautifully. There, I said it.

Herring practices so much control with his volume and tone. It makes his "rehearsed" playing more dynamic. Similar to Jeff Beck and Derek Trucks, this style makes the guitar sound much more vocal and human-like.

I really like Steve Morse, I really like Joe Bonamassa, I really like Eric Johnson... I guarantee all those guys would listen to this and say, "Damn!"
