I have been aware of her for years and she is one of the top drumers in the world. She has a band called Kiyo*Sen and The Jazz Avengers and a lot of solo stuff, all great music mostly Jazz Fusion.

Her spatial awareness is superb. For the most part, she isn't even looking at the drums or cymbals she is playing. Good drummer!

More talent in this lady than 50 of the self proclaimed and supposed greatest drummers in the World She's able to be play half asleep at the level of the greatest drummer sin the world Dave W, Jack D none of them can touch this girl, Gov't Mule, Snarky Puppy etc your days are NUMBERED this girl at half your age can eat you for breakfast!. She single handedly slaps everyone! literally I don't care for double kick personally a true genius doesn't need two pedals they can do triplets with one foot. But that said, when you have the raw and refined talent to be able to use and incorporate double kick that's pretty cool too. I saw this kid as in a child doing triplets for ten minutes with ONE foot ONE bass Drum ONE pedal no cheating or easy way outs for that kid that shit made me piss myself

My favourite Japanese drummer and just one of my favourite drummers overall. Senri is amazing and has been for quite a while now. She did some livesets a couple of days in a row around her birthday in January this year to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of her first solo album, which was recorded when she was 16, her first live DVD was recorded when she was 11 though. I believe she started studying under the late Kozo Suganuma when she was 8. You can see that she just loves playing drums to the point that she said her hobby was drums when they asked her for a video for one of the projects she is in (The Jazz Avengers).

My favorite drummer in the world right now. You have to check out Wupatki. What amazes me is the combination of smoothness and blinding speed, along with her musicality. She has said in interviews that she doesn't have the upper-body strength of most male drummers so she has to be more economical. She appears to have nailed that!

Funny thing is, this is easy for her. She has videos online of her playing when COVID quarantine was around that would blow your mind - WAY more technical than this.

Senri is the best female drummer in the world. She is better than probably 99% of male drmmers as well. She kind of went off the rails about ten or twelve years ago. Most of us thought Senri was going to be a rock or metal drummer, but her teacher was a jazz drummer. Nothing wrong with that, but she went got deeper and deeper into fusion and jazz. She can play in any time signature and basically any goove. She is called princess of many strokes in Japanese. Her drum teacher was Kozo Suganuma. He passed away a couple years ago and left behind a daughter who is vitually as good as Senri is, but she is not widely known. Her name is Tokomo Suganuma. Last heard about her was she was the drummer for a group called Fuzzy Control. But you should check out Senri Kawaguchi's albums. Her signature song is Flux Capacitor. She is very active all over the Pacific Rim. She was active all over the world prior to covid. She is included in Drummer World's list of top 500 drummers in the world including another younger Japanese drummer on the 500 list who is currently 14. Her name is Yoyoka Soma. Yoyoka is an incredible drummer. Her speciality is quarter notes. Very intense drummer and plays with many of the legends of rock as she currently resides in LA. You should, also, check out several other Japanese drummers. One is JUNNA. Another would be Miki Tsunoda who is the drummer for Show-ya, the longest female rock group in the history of rock. She is like the godmother of female rock drummers. Lastly, Akaine Hirose of Band-Maid. You won't be disappointed.

@@hanshandkante5055 Kanade is a very good drummer. However, she does not bring the energy to the drum throne of Senri Kawaguchi or Yoyoka Soma. JUNNA is on some kind of adreneline when she drums. Both Senri and Yoyoka are on the top 500 list of drummers in the world. Kanade needs to ratchet it up to the nex level. She certainly has all the skills and tools to ge there. Like Tomoko Suganuma, the daughter of the late Kozo Suganuma, she is as every bit as good as Senri Kawaguchi, but no one knows who she is. Kozo was Senri's drum teacher. Otherwise, there are too many great Japanese, female Japanese drummers to mention. I would consider MiMi a more skilled drummer than Kanade, but I didn't mention her either. MiMi is a great drummer, especially as a stage or studio drummer. When you get to the level of Senri or Yoyoka, very few drummers can hang with them. Both of them have exceptional drumming skills and are always dead on the beat and deep in the pocket. Even profssioial drummers cannot always drum on thier own albums. If you look at Karen Carpenter, she is on the list of top 500 hundred drummers, but she did not drum to her own music in the studio. The studio drummer used in her songs was the late great Hal Blaine, who is the drummer's drummer. He was on thousands and thousands of hits where he not only was the studio drummer, but laid down the basic groove for many hit records. @@tibetbill Dude, i don't know what you smoke but NOBODY is better then Kanade Sato. Senri Kawaguchi and Kanade Sato are literally on the same level and they are both easily in the top 100.

@@hanshandkante5055 In your dreams. You need to go cure yourself by dropping some acid, l-25, and listening to Pretzel Logic in a room, by yourself for 24 hours. Here is the top 500 list of drummers in the world. Kanade Sato is not on the list and she is not in the same league as the Princess of Many Strokes. This is Hannah Welton, who was Prince's drummer. She is on the top 500 list of drummers in the world. She does not, as of yet to be on the same level as Senri Kawaguchi. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp3LgZ2sjdKhns0 This doesn't mean that Welton or Sato can't get to Senri's level, but it takes effort, dedication and heart. In the meantime, Senri is constantly improving herself as a drummer and a musician. It is doubtful that too many other women, other than Yoyoka Soma and the jusry is out if she will get to Senri's level but she warrants to be in the conversation. Yoyoka picked up an interest in jazz which has carried her into the world of different time signatures. Senri is better than 99.5% of most men. She has very powerful short strokes and has the drum skills of a Buddy Rich, but without his ego. Both Senri and Yoyok both have thousands of hours up on stage and in the studo and Kanade does not have the equivalent professionial playing time as either of her fellow countrymen. You may choose to disagree with me all you want, but any professional drummer will tell you the same.

@@hanshandkante5055 Appareantly yt didn't like my initial response to you. Senri Kawaguchi is better in terms of skill than 99.5% of male drummers as well. You have to look at guys like Carime Apice and Scott Travis who have similar skillsets to Senri. Senri is called the Princess of strokes for a lot of reasons. The only female in the conversation with Senri would be Yoyoka Soma. Yoyoka got into jazz about tow years ago, but in terms of quarter notes, both of these ladies have thousands of hours on stage playing professionally with other musicians or thousands of hours in the studio. Kanade has to demonstrate more effort and heart to get to the next level. That is in her control, not yours to wish her there. The drumming world has spoken and this is the top 500 drummers in the world. Senri Kawaguchi and Yoyoka Soma are on this list, but Kanade Sato is not on this list. Senri is a great drummer. I was watching some of her videos of how she gets more power with her hits and feet as she isn't particularly big, they were very interesting. You have done Junna, now Senri, so it now must be time for Yoyoka.

I believe she was 17 when this was recorded. Her drums sound SOOOOOO damn good. By the way, those drum sticks she uses are special made for her.... about three inches longer than normal, so she gets more power from her small frame. I began playing drums and lessons in 1964, and played for 15 years. I've kept up with the music scene ever since, although I leaned more toward Jazz and Blues in the late 70's. I've followed Senri for over eight years. Senri is the best drummer I've heard over all of these years, no matter the genre of music. She could do at age 16 or 17 what Neal Peart did at his best.

Senri is a musician's drummer, the various jazz bands she has played with, and crossover progressive/ metal. She defies some of the rules.. I am not a drummer, but notice where she grips the sticks, for increased speed and power.

Yeh, Senri Kawaguchi… she is a kind be her own. No, there are not only Zildjian cymbals here. You guy just blabla without really knowing anything. I noted that already on your “reactive” on Kanade Sato. Senri Kawaguchi belongs to the foremost drummers internationally but Kanade Sato is more interesting more complex to hear about. I will see Senri 7 June at Sangenjaya Grapefruit Moon in Tokyo.
