This is quite literally what the aftermarket intakes do for the “modified” intake box. Looks a bit sus but this will save you hundreds.

I’ve drilled the airbox on nearly every car I’ve owned, best mod for induction noise and you keep the engine bay looking stock 😎
@ItsVannT7 ай бұрын
Yup I for sure prefer the stealth 🥷
@scottwaligora56557 ай бұрын
This modification can only be for the attempt of louder noise from under hood. There will be no performance gains, as the holes cut will pull warmer air and/or below atmospheric pressure air into the airbox, which will not burn as hot. Also like one of the members below mentioned, you will want to put some kind of barrier to prevent larger debris from coming into the box.
@postalpancho5 ай бұрын
Even aftermarket intakes don’t do anything for performance and the aftermarket intakes quite literally do the exact same thing. Lol
@lui22712 ай бұрын
i remember reading something similar to what you mentioned of "pressure air into the airbox", not sure if its cap, but the pressure is a variable of how the pistons function.

🔧🏆👏 This is far better for your engine and operating combustion temperatures than the $300 bolt-on K&N cold (hot, really) air intake people think is wise. One suggestion for others doing this: I’d Gorilla glue some window screen inside the air box over the holes and openings you drilled. It will stop whatever road debris and grit that gets in before it hits the air filter.

Thanks man I figured I should do that thanks for the reminder. 😅 But for sure I notice better response from mid range to higher RPMs

Bro I did that too and it instantly increased the intake air temperature. Stock airbox is the best. Ended up jb welding the cut piece back to the airbox.
@ItsVannT Жыл бұрын
@PatriotHere first and foremost thanks for the comment. I haven’t noticed any increase in temp and I still currently have this mod going. Although, I did add an air scoop where the air duct on the side of the front grill. So maybe that’s helped. I’ll have too keep a closer eye on my temp. What engine are you running?
@PatriotHere Жыл бұрын
@@ItsVannTare you reading your IAT through BimmerLink? My IAT used to be no more than 20 degrees from ambient temperature and with this cut out it’s almost 40 degrees hotter. I have B46 engine, but stock air box is similar to yours.

Thinking of doing this to my 120d xdrive sport 2013, i have got a stage 1 remap and a piper cross panel filter so hopefully this will give me a nice noise 😊 and hopefully be a bit more responsive on acceleration although it is pretty quick off the mark as it is

@RetroRoy79 Guess you must have seen something about intake mods messing up remap? I can confirm. I have an E91 320d M Sport with stage 1 remapped with original airbox on. I put on a Ramair cone filter for turbo spool sounds, but the extra air confuses the remapped ecu and put it in limp mode after a long drive. No warning lights, just bogged down and no acceleration, boost below 5 psi if that. I guess you'd have to remap the ecu again to recognise the extra air.

Yes, I’m doing this right now with my airbox but I’m adding gold wrap to it too to help lower temps as well

Totally not worth destroying an engine in the long run sucking in all that hot air. Short rams suck in hot air too. Creating an icebox would have been a smarter move here and it would have given you a bit of hp across the entire power band. People should be careful the videos you watch because not everyone knows what they’re doing like this guy lol
