You don't need "tools" to make coffee without silt. You just need a coffee filter. I don't get why so many people want to make cold-brew so difficult. You mix coffee and water, and a day later you filter it. That's all.

Agreed. However there is one thing i will give the OXO and Toddy. Since it takes a while to strain the coffee, having a device that you can just allow it to sit, and come back to later may be convenient for some. When i make my cold brew, i have to pour just a few ounces into the filter, wait, come back and do it again, and repeat several times. For some, they may want to "set it and forget it" as Ron Popeil used to say.

I appreciate the video. For cold brew coffee it is extra equipment that I'd have to buy that I don't need and it's too much work that isn't worth the time for me. I've been doing the much simpler method for years that most everyone who own a French press and coffee bean grinder can do: 1. Use the coffee grinder to course grind two to three tablespoons of whole coffee beans. 2. Put the course ground coffee into the empty French press container. 3. Fill the French press container halfway with filtered water and stir the coffee to mix it with the water. 4. Fill the French press container with filtered water to one-inch below the top of the container. 5. Cover the French press container with aluminum foil and let the coffee brew in the refrigerator for 24 hours. 6. at 23.5 hours use the French press plunger to push the coffee down to the bottom of the French press container. 7. Put the French press container in refrigerator for 30 minutes to let the freshly pressed coffee settle. 8. At drink time pour the coffee into two mugs by filling one mug about one-inch then filling the other mug about one-inch. Repeat alternating one-inch pours between both mugs until all the cold brew coffee is poured. After I finish pouring the cold-brew coffee into the two mugs I prepare a new batch of cold-brew coffee that goes into the refrigerator less than five minutes later. The above 8 steps makes two 2-cup mugs of cold brew coffee for me daily. I drink the first 2-cup mug of cold-brew coffee around 3 hours after waking up, which is when my morning energy levels start to dip. I drink the second 2-cup mug of cold-brew coffee around 3 pm, which is when my afternoon energy levels start to dip.

OMG... Look at "easy" cold brew youtubes. Measure any coffee grounds into any glass/Mason jar. Add cool water. Seal. Refrigerate for 12-24hrs. Using a drip coffee maker and filter, pour coffee and grounds from the jar into filter and allow coffee to drip into the pot. Once done dripping you are done. Another way is to get measured packets of coffee, put one into a measured amount of water, let it steep for 12-24 hrs. Pour off the coffee into your coffee pot or cup and enjoy!

Been doing cold brew for a little under 20 years now.(toddy maker) Don't do it all the time but once in a while I'll make a batch up throw it in an old glass sun tea 2 gallon jar with a built in spigot that fits perfectly on the top shelf of my fridge. The glass container that came with it was great till I butterfingered it and dropped it on the floor one day. So I purchased a second toddy maker just for the pitcher and then thought about the sun tea jar so now the pitcher gets used when I do one batch and the tea jar when I do two. I did not know about the metal filter... I've just been rinsing it out and drying till used up and replacing it from time to time over the years. Have to look into that thanks!

Another option for cold brew, Buy a large gallon size mason jar (they have them at Target and Walmart) and a large size funnel. Fill the mason jar with six tablespoons of coffee, then with filtered water. Be sure to sake it at least once during the 24 hours it will brew. laying the mason jar on its side will increase the surface area of coffee exposed to water. Once done, use a #2 coffee filter and a funnel then filter your coffee into a large tea jar or other receptacle. Repeat till it is done. Store in the fridge.
@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1
@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1 11 ай бұрын
6 tablespoons is NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH for a gallon & no matter which way you lay the jar or stand it up will not change the exposure to water - that is not how enclosed liquid volumes work. Furthermore, that method of turning it on its side is only useful in - and instructed to do - in infuser style/center filter drum pitchers. 6 tablespoons LOL that is not even enough for seven 6oz cups of coffee on a normal brewer…
@Jerome616
@Jerome616 11 ай бұрын
@@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1 Yo, if you factor in the air that is trapped in the bottle (due to the nature of coffee grounds) you do end up with a pocket of unexposed coffee grounds. Eventually it all sinks to the bottom anyway, but i like to turn it to the side to speed that up. Also, this is cold brew, its highly concentrated and brewed over a period of 12 to 24 hours. It comes out very strong. i use only a small portion in each of my cups of coffee.

I'm old. OMG, I am old. How old? You ask. Well, I am old enough to have used the TODDY method of coffee brewing since the 1980s. Would still be using it but what with several moves from state to state and within one state, well sometime in these intervening years I lost the black plug, and I'm not really sure where the filter may have gotten to, plus the carafe broke. So all I have had for several years is the big plastic brewing container and memories of preferring TODDY coffee to any other method I have used, including any type of hot brewing method you can name. That's why I clicked on this video - to remind me of just how to do it. I have decided to return to TODDY. Also in those intervening years, I have become a single-person household, so making an entire pot of coffee for only one consumer makes no sense. I prefer my coffee to at least start off hot - though I will drink it cold if I let it sit that long. Making it cold is not an issue - I have a microwave. I have replaced the missing parts of the system. Now I just need to get some ground coffee.

@3eggerfpv397
@3eggerfpv397 Жыл бұрын
Yes, OXO recommends 10oz of coffee or 284grams. What they don't tell you is measured in whole bean or measured in coarse ground. Maybe it's just me, but you weight out 284grams of whole bean, grind that all out and re-weight it, you'll have way over 284grams. Why, IDK! Lastly, I realize this video is several years old at this posting, so FYI, the OXO comes with paper filters to add as well. Just unscrew the bottom of the brewer and add that paper filter on top of the steel mesh filter and re-attach. The locking mechanism to the brewer does not need to be tripped manually by hand. You'll notice two black prongs at the back bottom of the brewer stand, slide the OXO carafe until it touches those prongs. Now when you release your brew from the brewer by pressing down on the switch, you'll notice another set of black prongs drop down in front of the OXO carafe. Basically these prongs are an alignment so that the carafe is in the right position for the drop! To stop the drop and lock the brewer, simple start pulling the carafe out from underneath the stand, this will automatically activate those front prongs upward to the lock position for the brewer. Pretty cool feature that prevents all your brew from spilling onto your counter!

Question: I've never been a coffee drinker, so I am completely ignorant on coffee. I've just started making cold brew to mix with other drinks. I've noticed a mud like consistency settling to the bottom. Is that safe normal? Do most people drink that? Or filter it out? It seems like it will mix fine if shaken or stirred, but I've tried using a standard paper coffee filter and that filters it out. I'm only using it as a mix in protein shakes, so I don't care about the consistency. I just don't want to drink it if it is bad for me. Thanks for any help 🙏🏻
