Depending on the circumstances of the murder, it might actually be his only victim. Serial killers exist, but they are extremely uncommon. I mean, EXTREMELY uncommon. The FBI reckons that there are an estimated 25 - 50 active serial killers in America. This is 25 to 50 people out of 333.3 MILLION people. That’s 0.00015151515151515% of the population. To put that in perspective, you are more likely to be struck and killed by a meteor while walking home (1 in 250,000 which is 0.0004%) than you are to encounter a serial killer. Most kills, even the most savage of kills, are not serial killings. However, 125 stab wounds is an extremely personal type of attack. You see this kind of attack between scorned lovers, a friend that screwed over another friend, family members with bad blood, etc… The press release states that the killer and his victim knew each other, or were at least connected by family. There is a high probability that this had something to do with conflict between these two specific people versus someone whose motive is “I like killing people” (ie, serial killer).

@antz32 but we aren’t in the 60s or 70s. 5 or more years ago DNA would’ve given them a lead. They just chose to put it on the back burner because her case wasn't interesting enough to them to get an unprovoked second look. This and many cases are an example of the family deserving of praise for continuing to try to get justice. The cops do their job decades later and think they deserve pats on the back. Hundreds of SA kits and other evidence is being sat on, criminals not being held accountable and these cops don’t even have to pay the money for when they execute or harm someone so they have the funding but aren’t using it properly. And they aren’t asking for more funding for cases but want more fancy toys to play with.

Released? Ummmm.. The Pretrial Fairness Act forces prosecutors to consider the age and medical condition of the defendant, so a judge released Barbier Thursday, under certain conditions. The family is disappointed he'll remain free at home until the trial.

Too bad the victim didn't get the same fairness to be able to enjoy her life. Our wonderful justice system at work. He'll never face justice, even if he gets life, he got to live free all this time. He basically got away with it, now he's old and probably dying already- what's left anyway? Total bullshit. Typical. Our whole justice system needs to be revamped.

@jukee67

At his age and health after all of these years...Yes. Regarding your comments focus on cop killers and politicians...For the most part, cop killers get hunted down with a fury. That is expected. If you were a member of a police department you would hunt a person that took one of your own. Leave your emotions aside whenever examining any situation. When it comes to politicians, the tax on our labor in America funds the monster government that has gotten out of hand. They cannot lock up every citizen of this country for demanding the tax on our labor to be removed and placed on corporate profits as written in the Constitution. The Constitution has been torn up and pushed aside. The generation that sits on most political sits are the baby boomers. They want things to stay as they are, even if they complain about our current state. Change only happens with pain and suffering. It's not as easy as voting the next corrupt official into office. If you were voted into office, you would become corrupt eventually or you would be gone.

Preservation of evidence is key in solving cold cases. So many police departments mishandle or lose boxes of evidence in many older cases. This department did everything right except for letting it sit on the shelf for much longer than it should have. They could have solved this case 10-15 years ago. It’s wonderful they finally decided to pursue it after the recent inquisitive phone call.
