So many of our stunning bands/artists were told to go overseas to ‘make it’ and so many treated badly. Cold chisel came home, wrote a clear message to the record execs (the song “you got nothing I want”) and were here to be loved, enjoyed and inspired by the Aussie fans. The world lost out because of ignorant record execs. Australia valued the home grown talent and the fact that videos from decades ago are now being reviewed and revered speaks for itself. Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi!!!

And the rest, Australian Crawl, Men At Work, Angels, Saints, Divinyls, Oils, Sunnyboys, Split Enz, Crowded House, Mentals. We were so spoilt. I just saw Crowded House supported by Teskey Brothers supported by Julia Stone in November. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G night in a park in Canberra, in Canberra! And Nick Cave in the same month.

@jamussmyth1612
@jamussmyth1612 Жыл бұрын
No one would have ever thought a harmonica could be a main instrument. Except for “Blowing in the Wind”😊. This is right up there, but in a different sort of way. Billy Joel also used it effectively in “Piano Man”. It’s an underrated instrument. It sort of reminds me of the use of the flute in “Land Down Under”. Obscure instruments getting some recognition over the vocalists.

Look up the keywords “Territorial evolution AustralIa” in wiki. You’ll see that New Zealand was a state of Australia until 1901 when federation occurred. NZ was given a choice to join but they never answered yes or no. Until 1994 Kiwis and Aussies didn’t need a pass port to travel between the two countries. Under the Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement introduced in 1973, Australian and New Zealand citizens are able to enter each other’s country to visit, live and work indefinitely, without the need to apply for prior authority. New Zealand is the only country in the world that has such an arrangement with Australia. There are no caps on the numbers of New Zealanders who may enter under the arrangement, and the only limitations on entry relate to health and character requirements. Australia and New Zealand are the closest brother countries in the world.

@@bodybalanceU2 little known fact. The first British settlements in New Zealand actually set out from Australia with Australian settlers, not from Britain. The first governor of the settlement in New Zealand was William Hobson, before that he had been in charge of Williamstown in Melbourne and Hobsons Bay there is named after him. And the settlement in New Zealand was initially administered from Sydney.

I’d call it ear candy. Loved your enthusiasm for our beloved Cold Chisel with Jimmy (Barnsey) on vocals at the very beginning of this song, and Ian (Mossy) on vocals and guitar. I agree that David Blight’s contribution on harmonica provides that extra brilliance that takes the performance to an extra level. No holding back though for the other band members, Steve Prestwich (RIP) on drums, Phil Small on guitar, and Don Walker on piano. All of which are Stella writers and musicians. They really know how to perform live.

I never understood how the world didn’t embrace Cold Chisel. I was fortunate to see them play an impromptu tour warm up gig at Parra Leagues Club, it was either 80 or early 81. It wasn’t advertised. There were no lights. Just the band and about a half full auditorium as the only ones who knew were those in the club that night, or people who’d heard through word of mouth that day. I worked there and was picking up my pay when an announcement was made on the club’s PA system. I immediately rang a mate off a pay phone (of course it was pre mobile phones. What I witnessed was two hours of music and chaos beyond description. All of their songs up to the Circus Animals album, covers. Jimmy Barnes leaping off the stage and running along the tables that were still there from Bingo and kicking all the glasses, bottles and beer jugs out of his way, then jumping into the middle of the crowd - all this with the old cord mic and the roadies trying to keep the cord intact. He smashed into the shoulder of my mate on his way back to the stage. What a night!

David Blight on harmonica is a legend. He played a lot live with Cold Chisel. A brilliant band...a unique sounding front man who is a great live performer, an awesome lead guitarist who would be lead vocal in any other band, one of Australia's greatest songwriter's on piano, and a rhythm section who held them together and were songwriters themselves. Keep checking their catalogue...its extensive and they don't really have any bad songs, with a couple of good covers thrown in. Oh, have you watched their version of Wild Thing from off the Last Stand tour? If not, i'm telling you that it too will be in your top ten live performances.

As a 55yr old aussie that has seen chisels more than once in small clubs I love love love the power of the internet and how so many Americans are just now discovering these Aussie icons.

🙏 Sending hugs from Australia for the "DeGroasting" rating on our Aussie legends. These guys are in our Aussie souls, and we love everything about them. So having you not just enjoy and appreciate, but to give them a "DeGroasting", and have such a great react, I say thank you, and just know that it makes us Aussies so very happy to see our artists get recognition from outside our island - We know they're great, and musical greatness should always be shared, no matter where you are. Hugs 🤗

I’ve seen footage of that concert and song, but never that particular one. Similar, but from different angles. Great reaction mate.
