Larry sure knows how to make the guitar sing in a solo, great tension and release, and Robben and him play and compliment each other so well together ! Bravo.

Larry and Robben bring out the best in each other-- I hope they play together a lot more often. They have been digging each others work for decades. I used to go see them play together at Donte's in North Hollywood back in the '70s and they kicked ass back then! They both had 335s and Boogies but you could always tell them apart if you listened. This track is so good its sublime, it probably goes right over some peoples' heads. Two masters still digging each others craft 30 plus years on THANKS!

This guys are really true blues players,Larry played for a while with the Crusaders and Robben with Yellow Jackets,L.A scene, for the people that did't know. They are my favorites since 1980.

Larry dropped down some organ licks at the end...and he and Robben both laughed because they KNEW it was a Jimmy Smith( or McDuff, etc) lick! Great seeing two friends with such ability jamming together and supportive.

Around the time a lot of bluesmen were gravitating towards funk, Clapton's work with John Mayall revived the popularity of the classic sound and helped pave the way for blues to continue being popular clear through the SRV revival and up until today. Without Clapton these two might not have been on that stage, in that environment, with that reception.

It really amazes me how they talk and laugh in the first two minutes while still playing this amazing music, wonder what they are saying to each other. Anyway, Carlton´s tone is nothing but superb, great vid.

It never ceases to amuse me that rather than appreciate the contributions made by guitarists, so many use the opportunity to compare & criticise. Why??? What is accomplished by this? Apparently it is in our nature to descriminate and to criticise rather than celebrate.

I've seen Larry so many times live, and have blown away every time; but this solo is most definitely the pinnacle - even Robben is impressed!! But seriously, Larry is almost always "on", but when he's really on, he brings me to tears. Mind you, I love Robben too, but Larry just burned through this.

Did you not listen to what Robben played? I swear some people are simply without a clue. Robbens solo was a wonderfully building, both subtle and raw, reply to what LC played. Buy LC's LIVE IN TOKYO CD and listen to it. LC solos are on the left channel and RF solos are on the right channel. After you have listened to it, ask yourself: Who played the best solos?

I heard these 2 when they started playing together. 1970's, Dante's in LA. I stood no more than a handful of feet in front of them dead center. Pops on bass, Sample on keys, Stix on skins. I swooned. For young'uns: LC was the first to perfect this style (Mesa Boogies (pre-amped amps) were freshly fresh). Check out the The Crusaders and LA Express (also his sound was a cornerstone of Post/Carpenter TV themes). He was THE nexus of jazz, rock and pop -- a minor musically historic figure.

I've improved my skills a lot since the last comment. Now this tune ain't a problem for me! I forgot to say: i've had guitar lessons in 2006-07; i also still have piano lessons for nearly 12 years now, my theoretical knowledge and the guitar lessons i had ensure, that i don't crap my technique as bad as complete beginners. Just great to see how oneself developes his own style, and they both influenced me very much! Maybe i'll be able to up a Cold Gold vid when my exams are done! cya!
