“The Frontier is a strange place, and it is not always easy to recognize. It may lie on the other side of a door marked ‘No admittance’ - but it is always deadly dangerous.”
Aboard a Deep-Space vessel, a man finds a stowaway whose presence threatens to doom the mission, and kill everyone on board.
First aired 25th August 1955, on X Minus One - the science fiction radio series broadcast from 1955 to 1958 on NBC Radio

The original story was even sadder. The girl was even younger and going to see her brother if memory serves.

They left out the last part of the story. The pilot sees this disfigured mass drift in front of his spaceship.

It feels so contrived that the fuel is that tight.

This is beyond stupid. Her extra mass didn't affect Escape Velocity? She would have been discovered when they were in Transfer Orbit, prior to departing Earth's gravity. She could have transferred to an Orbital Station while they took on the fuel necessary to break orbit. Realistically, before we have the Propulsive Technology to make Interstellar flight, we would have had to develop automaton that would direct the Craft without the added mass of Human Crews.

There was no escape velocity from Earth. The EDS ship didn't leave from Earth. It left from a larger ship that was already deep in space.

Why don't you just CALM down. There is NO need to get hysterical. This is just an old time science FICTION story. Key word here is FICTION. Do you know what that is? Realistically NOTHING. This is just FICTION.

The story was written in the 50's and isn't really about the technical part.
