The chipmunk voice slayed me. I modded the Mayhem. Took off the peak on the swedge area, took down the handle at the butt and around the pivot area so I can front flip it now and can two finger forward choil area grip it. I am adding a spyderco hole where the thumb stud was. It’s truly a large EDC that is fun and practicable

5 max scout ftw please cold steel make one!!!! Love the 4 max scout I have 3 of em. I think the 5 max is the better ultimate durability knife, maybe also camp companion if you have to have a folder. mayhem for everything else is the better choice.

The difference between the 5Max and Mayhem is you're using different cutting motions between the two with the 5Max getting more of a chopping motion and the Mayhem more of a slicing motion. Other factors may be that the Mayhem has thinner edge geometry behind the edge and having what looks like a satin finish, which I kind of think the acid wash they've done gives it a little more resistance in cutting. Kind of ran my finger on the surface of my own 5Max and Tilite Signature series and it felt a little more resistant on the acid wash over the satin.

I think the Mayhem has a thinner grind behind the edge to give it more cutting power and bite. That could mean the 5Max has a slight edge in durability which is harder to demonstrate.

Hey Jimislash, question for ya. What is the tang of the Cold Steel warcraft tanto 4034 like? I have been wanting to get the 12in but I saw in JoeX video that it is a skeletenized tang on the short length. Is it the same on the 12in length? Thanks for your time. Ps. Good video. I would have liked to see more testing but it is a good video. I’ll choose the Mayhem too. I think it has a better slashing power and cutting power. Even in camping or survival situation the Mayhem will outperform the 5MAX which is a great knife as well. To me a knife is first a weapon then a tool. If I am gonna carry a knife I much rather carry a knife that is a solid weapon and can be used as a tool; rather than carrying a knife that is a tool and falls short as a weapon. My first Cold Steel is the AK-47 and I love it. It was the first knife of the Cold Steel family that caught my eye. I just ordered the Spartan (AUS10A) smooth edge. I think the Mayhem will be next and I want the S35VN version. Keep up the good work.

Hi my friend, great video of two great knives! 👍 To choose between this to iconic tools is everything else than easy. I love the shape of the 5Max, but also the uncoated blade of the Mayhem. (I think the 5Max would perform better without the coating.) Without coating i would prefer 5Max with one point, but loving both. But it doesn't matter, because i can't afford neither the one nor the other. Big thank you for showing! LG

5max all day everyday, ive seen other test where a single stab to a wood broke the tip of the mayhem. Although its most certainly interesting to see such a big blade like mayhem on atlas lock, making it first fidget friendly pocket sword.

Chief I watched that test and considering that the mayhem was being test to its breaking point and the fact too few people are going to stab a MayHem or 5 Max into a hardwood slab and then purposely try to break the point of that black off I wouldn't be tbe least bit concerned about breaking the tip of my knife in a self defense situation I get that the tip of tbe MayHem broke off but that was the entire point of the testing I'm more than confident about the strength of tbe MayHem's steel and the strength of tbe MayHem's Axis Lock to the point I now own of the AUS version as well as 3 of the Sven35 version of the MayHem

Something else where I live mayhem is AUS 10A and the 5max is s35vn and the price are exact in a same range $500, don't make sense but it's what it's.

The Mayhem is just lacking a little bit of refinement. The way the blade is angled on the Mayhem it really should have a thumb plate, and the lack of rounding in the choil looks awkward. I think the Mayhem is an awesome platform but it needs a version 2.

I’m sure that the 5Max is a great knife...but I’m not buying one just yet..I’ll likely wait for the Scout version (if it comes out). When I received my S35 Mayhem, I was so impressed that I immediately had to get the Aus10 version. And honestly, the Aus10 might be the sharpest out of box knife that I’ve ever handled...I mean, it was insanely sharp...But that’s whatever...guess I got a really well sharpened example. That said, I own basically every large or XL folder that CS has ever made, and the Mayhem has instantly become among the best of the best. I don’t say this often, but if you’re on the fence about this knife...well, you know the rest...

Even though the mayhem looks cool nothing stacks to the max I would choose the max for sure because I have seen people beat that knife could not even phase it anyways they need to continue with the s35vn with the mayhem instead of all the exclusive nonsense it's starting to get on my nerves why don't they try other steel options. I am saving up for one of those mayhem.

I do not feel these were made for the same purpose. Both are well made, with two different locks. If you need to do work outside - go with the 5 Max. For doing the Devil's business the nod goes to the Mayhem.
