The head you are speaking of that was made by Goldtip was called the Gladiator. They were made in 100 and 125 grain versions. Like you mentioned; plastic ferrule. I actually used them for a number of years and killed quite a few good sized whitetail bucks with them. I specifically remember complete pass throughs on a few of the bucks, with the arrows buried in the ground on the exit side. Never had any of the ferrules break on any of the kills. It is an over the top mechanical, with extremely pointed blade tips. I still have several in my broadhead box.

I'm super impressed! I've had terrible experience with the plastic ones, i bought 2 of those to test how my arrow would fly with a fixed head, shot one at a foam target and it flew way to the side (even though i paper tuned my setup with a field point of same weight) and when i pulled the arrow out of tue foam target the head broke off just like you said yours did when you overtwisted it. Then i spun the other one to see why it flew so much to the side and it spun TERRIBLY. Mind you, i'm not in the US and bought gemfroma localshop, so maybe they were counterfeit? But a guy i know in the US bought themand shot one through the side of a hanging gutted deer carcass and it exploded on contact with a rib on the front side, absolutely terrible result. But if every head of this new design in every pack they sell would spin and hold up like in your video and be as sharp, i'd say they would be worth the money and i'd give them a try. Btw where in your sharpness test scale would a head start shaving hair, at what weight?

Thanks for the comment. In the sharpness test, I give some examples of what the various levels of sharpness mean, in the video description.

Hi John, I really enjoy your reviews. I'm a bit confused on a statement you made in this video and hope you can clarify. Due to the 22* bevel you noted it wouldn't rotate much. The Alien V2, which is how I found your channel, has a 23.22* bevel and at the time of the test you said it rotated more than any other broadhead you had tested. Does 1.22* make that much difference? Or is head length a piece of the rotation equation? Thanks in advance and please keep the reviews coming. Regards, John
@LuskArcheryAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John. There are a few things that affect the rotation: Bevel angle, Blade thickness, and Width of the cut. As for bevel angle, a 45 degree angle will cause the greatest rotation. But the edge wouldn’t be very “sharp” with that angle, so heads that want max rotation are usually 40 degrees. I thought the V2 was 40, but perhaps I am wrong in that. Blade thickness matters as well-the thicker the blade, the greater the rotation, all other things equal. And then with the Width of the cut, again, the wider it is, the more it will rotate-especially if it is short as well. So the V2, regardless of the bevel angle, is quite thick and has a wide and short cut. Thus it rotates very well. If it were 40 degrees at the bevel, it would rotate even more. The design/geometry of the tip of a head also affects rotation. I’ve found heads without a tanto tip tend to rotate better-just two edges converging at the point, like the V2. And as mentioned earlier, the more a head flares out in its width, the greater the rotation. But it should be noted, all that rotation can also adversely affect penetration.

@pensnut082 жыл бұрын
That was surprising!! Do you think the lack of rotation was due to the narrow cutting diameter?
@LuskArcheryAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Yes. That’s a factor. Bevel angle, blade thickness and width of the cut are the 3 greatest factors affecting rotation. Length is also a factor; the shorter it is, the more it will rotate, all things equal

Impressive performance for such an inexpensive broadhead. No, it won't be my deer hunting broadhead, but if I were pressed for cash to the point where it was the difference between going and not going hunting I'd use it. Cold Steel makes some good knives and for just a little more $ makes some great knives. Their knife warranties are really 2nd to none.

Man was I surprised !! Held up further than I certainly thought. I mean for $10 for 3 heads ? I found my new raccoon head !! lol Rotation was poor, penetration poor,sharpness poor,width poor, Shot dead on with field tips, important. Blade thickness,excellent. Couple improvements to me, might be to widen up the cut, but that might put too much stress on the "polymer" ferrule ? Tanto tip it,rid the saw tooth for simple edge you can resharpen and or polish up. Single bevel is always great. I'm not sure if an aluminum ferrule is going to be that much stronger, but it should be atleast a BIT stronger. Being it held up the steel plate test, speaks volumes to the quality pf the "PLASTIC" ferrule. I'm going to buy a pack for raccoon recon around the feeders. More fun to arrow them then pellet gun them. Overall a great test in that nobody would have even considered this head without this exposure to it's viability. I wouldn't doubt this heads capability on wild boar 100 pounds and under,easily. Being they shot so well, thats what you need with a smaller boar hog being the kill zone is so small on them compared to the larger pigs. John thanks again,great job,eye opener for sure.

It didn't break in the cardboard, now, I was really surprised. The rest of it blew me away. I'd have no problem taking these out hunting. I would just sharpen them first. They are a little on the dull side. Very impressed, especially at that price. Way better than the cheap mechanicals with the crappy aluminum. Plastic is not so bad after all.
