Cold Steel Code 4 Review. Their most reasonable and maybe best every day carry?

Cold Steel makes a lot of ridiculous knives, but they also make some nice stuff like the Code 4 that anyone can carry and enjoy. This is a lightweight knife with aluminum scales, and a tough Tri-Ad lock mechanism. In this video I test lock strength unscientifically by batoning, install a bottle opener on my stump, and wonder if God understands satire. Fun video, thanks. I bought the Code 4 this week. First thing that struck me was the slickness of the scales - very slick - and how thin it is. I bought the serrated version because Lynn Thompson says it is 3 times better at cutting through flesh - and who am I to argue. Ran my fingers along the blade like I do with all my straight blade knives, and sure enough, it cut the hell out of me. Guess Lynn is right.

I recently purchased the tanto version of the code 4 s35vn steel. The action is smooth, the blade is tight, with no play, and it slides in and out of pockets without abrading the fabric. It has the slim profile of my all stainless spyderco endura, but has thicker blade stock. It’s a more refined version of the cold steel recon 1... It’s thin, light weight, very capable, and doesn’t scream mall ninja.

I learned my lesson with long form videos a while back where I did the one about drive ins. I spend way too much time editing and writing to make this channel a worthwhile endeavor. Beer videos are my way of generating content that's easier and quicker to make than a standard knife review. It's why I don't do light reviews any more really. Other than a few guys like you most people do not fully understand the commitment it takes to make a 15 minute video about an illumination device. Shit... I spent 45 minutes at my table this morning measuring 4 knives, and converting everything to metric.

I remember first seeing this in the store was surprised how thin and light it was. Also looked pretty good fit and finish than what I thought of cold steel. Beforehand my exposure was the spartan my friend hand and I thought it sort of look like junk. So this was an entry knife into cold steel and actually xhp is quite good. They are downgrading switching to S35vn. Eventually sold it because I felt the triad was overkill for smaller edc knives. It’s more suited for 4 max and rajah 2 etc.

As usual great video. Just don't let it get to your head, because there was one flaw, the comment about not cutting your finger because you are advance. Well I remember seeing one of the older vids where I a finger with a wrap, band aid, well maybe you were not all that advanced back them, Hahahaa..............................Hell, finger cuts are not that bad. I was fooling around with a CS Bushman folder, the stringy thing in the rear broke loose and I stabbed myself in the leg, blade went in about 1.5 inches. Scare thing is that it missed my left testicle by about .25 inch. I bled for about 2 days until the cut closed. I kept the knife and pull it occasionally to remind me about it.

A practical cold steel. Man, I've never thought I'd see the day. So far my only CS is the Recon 1 Micro (yeah maybe should've read the specs on that.. I thought it was a really good price).. but this one actually looks great. If it'll be available for a reasonable price over here or is available I am considering it.

Yeah... a good in the $40-$60 range. I would prefer it to be a little more at the $40 end... but that steel doesn't make it any cheaper.

I got the Kershaw Natrix CF today. The unassisted opening. It's so great.. made me way happier than a grown man should be but hey, I'll take it. Will make a great video for tens of people to watch a comparison between the speedsafe and the CF Version. Really though, get that Knife. It's awesome!

I love this knife it may be my favorite all time which is a huge statement even with the harder to use lock mine flicks out fast and i added the snaggle tooth to mine so now its even faster to deploy for work. The thing is its just to beautiful to use for work. For edc i think i like the broken skull a tiny bit better its not as nice looking and the handles not as ergonomic but the big flat ground blade and super light weight make the broken skull my final one option all around edc it carrys in swimming trunks or jeans it'll cut ANYTHING keep an edge forever and would be awesome for self defence as well. The only real issue i have is the name broken skull printed on it. I keep buying knives because i have the sickness but owning these two almost cured it because i don't feel like i wanna use anything else now i only switch my left spare pocket knife because i don't wanna be with out my broken skull that also has the snaggle tooth wave feature on it. One last thing i DID have to MODIFY the BS by grinding the lock spring to weaken it a little dialing in the action to perfection and sanding under the clip so it slipped in the pocket easier.

Even though I own a Spyderco Sharpmaker and this knife, I've never sharpened it on the Sharpmaker, only on Fallkniven DC4. I use the Sharpmaker on all of my kitchen knives but on my EDC I want total portability/independance. You'll never catch me with a folder that doesn't shave hair.

I’d go for a new one without hesitation. It is the perfect knife for someone with big hands, who wants a slim profile.
