Agreed. I don't see what doing all this with the newspaper would prove for a sword. A knife or katana maybe. But just look at how the sword pushes through the paper with out any tearing. That is not to shabby for any sword imho.

Yes, but as examples go.. I still stand by the wording. Especially since this particular guy tests his swords in both manners. The paper test is still a good way to display sharpness.

Ok, will keep that in mind! :-) I still feel that the paper cutting tests do reveal something though, there are many swords that cannot even do this... Never mind newspaper...

A sharp sword can cut through wood, but an unsharp sword can also cut through wood. A sharp sword can do this to paper. An unsharp sword would bend the paper. This test proves how sharp the blade is. Cutting through would tests how durable the blade is.

@Zeroshenmegaman ...your half halfright about the jian, like renaissance period swords it put more emphasis. on the thrust its true. but its more like a medieval cut and thrust sword than a rapier or smallsword so its cutting ability wont be anywhere near that of a dao, or a viking sword while the early repiers still make very good cuts, its performance is reduced compared to earlier cutting blades

Ah ok, worked this time. It looks alright - do you have any vids of those swords in action?

Too expensive to buy from Cold Steel directly. Then can be had for literally 1/2 that price ($239) if you look around. All that info and the full review of this sword is on my site.

@noah1502 I wonder... Cos the Gim/Jian is not really a weapon of slicing, but instead, thrusting, it's not really surprising that the Gim needs a little more effort in slicing the sheet of paper. Another thing to note, how sharp a blade is isn't necessarily the blade's fault. Could be the negligence of the polisher... Afterall, Cold Steel IS mass-producing these swords... It isn't really surprising to see one or two swords that aren't at it's sharpest peak...

Don't worry, after the way this sword performed there will be plenty more!

if i had a sword, I don't think I would be concerned if it cut paper. Isnt that what a knife or better yet.... scissors are for? I want to see this sword cut clean through a 2x4, or break through a cinder block without completely fubar-ing the blade.
@SwordBuyersGuide17 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ. I don't see how I'm pulling the paper, and a dull blade won't cut paper no matter what you do.

aaaahhh my swiss army knife can do that
