I've stumbled upon about a dozen reviews on these two knives and you were the first to mention the hexagonal vs diamond grip and the fact that there are at least 2 generations of the SRK (one hollow grind the other not). Solid handshake.

I agree regarding which knife I would trust with my life if I had only one blade; the SRK. Mine is the st st version. I also have been contemplating pairing the two together.

Use a straight edge on the bevels. If you see light under it's a hollow grind. If straight edge makes contact along full contact the flat ground

I own them both as well as the recon tanto and a few more fixed blades from cold steel. Really love the compact alot. I stripped the blade on my original srk and did a mustard patina. Turned out really cool. For the money these cost they're well worth what you spend on them. Great low cost fixed blades and a must have for the enthusiast knife collector

I am on the fence about buying this knife. I’ve seen several videos on it. Lots of people love the knife but hate the Secure-Ex sheath as it apparently dulls the knife each time it’s extracted. Are you finding the same thing? It’s pretty much the only thing right now stopping me from buying the knife. I sharpen all of my knives by hand on stones and would probably find it a bit of an inconvenience having to re-sharpen it every time I needed it.

I find the claims to be accurate unfortunately. More so on the SRK and not the SRK-C. I would take another look at the Gerber Strong Arm if you do not already have it.

This reminds me of the Ka-bar full size vs the short fighter. The short is really compacted, blade and handle, to the point of the handle just barely extending to the end of my hand when gripped. It's really too short, but the shorter blade is fine. Of the full sizes I have I prefer the Cold Steel Leatherneck over the SRK.

SRK-C - you referred to it having a flat grind. Judging from the pictures, I would have thought it would have been described more accurately as a sabre grind. Any comment on that?

The Strongarm gets a lot of (justified) raves, but there's no way I'm paying $90 for a 420C knife, when the SRK is available for around $30.
