I have a Trailboss, and it has served me well. It was not super sharp out of the box, but I sharpened it up with an axe sharpening puck, and it gets real sharp and holds an edge well. I also sanded off the varnish and treated the handle with boiled linseed oil (every day for a week, every week for a month, every month for a year). I have used it to cut down 18" trees, split logs, and make kindling. I live in a mountain town in Colorado and heat my house primarily with firewood, and this was the only axe I used to turn standing deadwood on my property into firewood in my wood stove all winter.

@swopejp you did the same thing I did to mine. I also made a nice leather mask for it. I've had mine quite a few years now and have no complaints with it.

Man, i bought one couple yrs bk. Maybe year n a half bk, but anyway, I LOVE this lil axe.. its easily my favorite so far. Great size for a do all camp ax, truck ax etc... not too big & not too small. Have thrown it. Beat it up pretty good & has held up well. Drove some t-posts down puttin up some silt fencing & have cut a deer leg or two off with it. It just handles great. Really like it. I wouldnt go campin or messin around the woods without it. Nice tool for the $. Enjoyed the scientific presentation, lol...

Seems as if the "popular" culture that's been engineered to degrade and demoralize our people have taught folks to instinctively dislike genuine people and character traits.

I have one of those and I like it a lot. I did get a leather sheath online that cost about as much as the axe. I don't like the varnish on the handle. But, for an axe I take on trails and don't care about beating it up, you can't beat it.

By my experience using the rear of the ax head for a hammer, it holds up well driving 3/4” pins into gravel, it does mushroom out a bit, I havent had any petals forming on the edges yet but there is seems not to be hardened. I did break the original handle trying to drive a wedge into a 24” tree

First thing I did when I bought mine was scrape the sticker and the polyurethane coating off the handle and sanded it then put three coats of linseed oil on it over the course of a few days and then about once a month or so I'll put some more on it. The handle feels velvety smooth now and feels so much better than that polyurethane crap every manufacturer puts on their wooden tool handles that causes blisters.

My go to axe - good enough to do the tasks I need done, cheap enough to not care if it gets damaged. My Gransfors Bruk still goes on camping and hunting trips, but otherwise the Trail Boss is my primary.
