Whether a Black Belt or a novice, if you walk that path -- we salute you!
We have used our pioneering developments in high impact materials to create a wide range of training tools for the modern Martial Artist. From our durable rubber training knives to our virtually unbreakable training swords, our products are reliable, functional and cost effective.

Safe is overrated. I don't mind feeling the consequence of being hit with a bokken or stabbed with a rubber knife. After all, and trainer half worth a cent will want to prepare you for the fact that in any fight, you are bound to get hurt. A knife is pulled, expect to be cut or stabbed. Learn that you'll get hurt, it may mean the difference between life and death.

They're made out of polypropylene which is extremely durable. It's safer than a blunt steel blade but also heavier than what some people spar with like foam swords. I've used the cold steel hand and a half trainer and the safety rules my partners and i have are to not hit the very bony areas if we can; like, wrists, knees, elbows. These will break them if hit hard enough

Question: I'm trying to make a prop katana, but also intend to use it for some live sword play and such. I want to ask, since I'm 5' 2" tall, is recommended to get a katana that is 24" to 28" long or a sword that is longer, like 36"? Also, if I go the 36" katana route, will I still be able to perform with some efficiency?

I actually just sent you guys an email, but I am going to go ahead and post this here as well: In my email, I suggested a few ideas such as: Large bladed axes (single and double handed) Naginatas Halberds/Poleaxes Bardiche Cutlasses Kopeshes (may or may not be structurally sound) Maces/Hammers (albeit I could definitely see how that may not be safe) Nordic style swords PLEASE, for the active aspiring fighters out here, please try some of these ideas. I love the variety you have right now, but I can see these ideas going far. Thanks!

Please forgive me, but I am having silly thoughts of some very passionate 007 fan(s) using that buckler as an improvised hat for a functional Odd Job costume. I know I've said this many times, and I am sorry if I am annoying you with this- I'll try not to talk about it much more, I promise- but there are a number of very promising swords of yours that I'd love to have trainers for. If you are entertaining the notion of making new practice weapons, especially for the Shamshir, your saber models, the Colichemarde, and/or for the Great Sword, please know you have at least one vote from me. If not, please do consider it. I know I'd buy them- probably at least one of each. Thank you, I'll leave the matter be for now, and try to refrain from bringing it up again at all. Thank you again for all your patience and diligence. For the record, I imagine you are probably very, very tired of having to explain that the meat was preserved and donated to (I think) the Ventura County Rescue Mission over and over again, and defending against disrespectful remarks about your president. Thank you, and Kudos, for your patience and courtesy in these, and other, matters.

Because these Poly materials can break cinder, can they break or bend swords?
@Panczekolada
@Panczekolada 9 жыл бұрын
Isaiah Johnson Well, they probably could bend a sword if you hit it on the side, but then again anything hard enough could, even a baseball bat. It's just a matter of force used. Just remember that plastic (yeah, yeah, I know) "blades" are more flexible than wooden or metal ones, so there will be a lot of give during the clash. It's worth of note that the CS training weapons are very durable even in contact with blade - I had a boken that got struck with european and japanese swords many times and it definetely lasted longer than any wooden one would - the poly material just gives a little to the sharp blade and then clenches on it softly, stopping a lot of the force.
@abelbabel8484
@abelbabel8484 9 жыл бұрын
Since I just came across these videos again, I think I might as well say my piece. [It got kinda out of hand, there's a tl;dr at the bottom.] First off, as of now I've got about a year and a half bordering on two years of experience with the one-handed and one-and-a-half European style training swords. As 12th century reenactors, we go as close to full-contact as the armor and wargear of the time (and what modern gear we can hide underneath) allows us without effectively coveting permanent injuries or worse - that said, at times there is blood and there are scars. The swords are pretty damn good. They really are; they're durable, well-made and very suitable to their purpose. If you're looking for a training weapon that will last you and more importantly train you as its user, well, look no further; these are perfectly operational. What I mean with training you is that they are much bulkier in both shape and handling than a real blade. You need more force for every swing, every parry, every recovery and even then they do move more slowly than a steel sword would - which is close to optimal for absolute beginners, as they soon see the need to really throw those strikes (something very many people are initially very shy about) as well as granting them a chance to more easily observe what's happening and react rather than being overwhelmed by the speed of a more experienced fighter who is very familiar with his weapon. Also means that when you fight with a steel blade after training with these, you'll feel like you're on vacation while actually opening a can of whoop-ass on someone. Can be quite startling the first time experiencing that. Of course, if you move them fast, they also hit hard. Protective equipment is absolutely necessary, head, neck, collarbones (easy to injure and super-painful and tedious to heal), hands, knees and for the love of god, pad your thighs if you don't secretly crave the pain. Legs are primary targets. Without the protective stuff, hospital is only ever a single misstep away and you may deal your training partner a lasting injury - or receive one yourself. Right, the swords. Though very durable, they do show wear and tear quite early and easily - all that kinetic energy has to go somewhere. Even just bashing them together leaves them scuffed and with little dents, striking chainmail or metal plate (in our case, helmets) can leave scratches or gouges a few millimeter deep. But don't be concerned by that - they last. It's just their thing that they start looking used and beaten very early, but then keep going and going. They're not unbreakable, though. We actually did break one the other day - yesterday, to be precise. One of the one-handers; a third of the blade just snapped off and went flying after a nice hard hit it dealt. Kinda looks weird and wrong to see them broken like that. Also, one of the one-and-a-halfers had its crossguard broken and knocked off by a literal one-in-a-million shot the very day it arrived, if memory serves. Which brings me to the next point - they're easy to fix. We repaired the crossguard with a strip of metal and some screws, and though not too pretty, is very serviceable. I believe there are replacement parts for crossguards and the rubber bands that hold them for sale - well, we did not need one. Speaking of the rubber bands, they're tough and thick and hold very well, but they're only rubber and at some point will tear. Easy fix again, if you haven't already glued or screwed the guard to the blade: couple layers of duct tape will reliably hold it where it belongs. (We've not quite given up on the broken onehander, as well. We might play around with joining the blade parts over a length of iron bar inside to bridge the fracture or something like that. Wouldn't put it past the damn thing to serve us another year.) Even so, if one training sword per 1,5-2 years is the price, they're still worth it. The first few months we only worked with steel blades and chewed through shields and wore down helmets at an alarming and very costly rate. The training swords go much, much easier on the gear and have without a doubt paid themselves off several times already. Last point I can think of for now is that they do need some customization and work before they're really optimally operational. The handles are well-sized to grip tightly, but very smooth and need some kind of grip-wrap. Something tough, too, tape for tennis raquets for example only lasted us a couple hours. Also, if you plan on using the hand-and-halfer as such, you may want to smooth down the points and ridges on the octagonal pommel into something round and pear-shaped, as they otherwise will dig into your hand which is rather distracting and gets painful after an hour or two. Just a file and sandpaper and 10 minutes time, done. Also, they're completely resistant to wind and weather. Doesn't matter how you store 'em, leave 'em out in the backyard if you want and no harm is done where you'd spend an hour cleaning the rust off a steel blade. Gods, I wrote a novel. Sorry. tl;dr: Know the medieval onehander and hand-and-halfer and love them. Very durable (first breakage after almost 2 years; might even be salvageable), heavy wasters and beaters; they will make your arms strong. Consider they're not only safer, but go much easier on your equipment - purchase might save you money in the long run (certainly did for us). They are easily repaired and customized, which is good since they'll need a bit of both to be at their best. All in all, fantastic product. My sincere thanks to Cold Steel for making my training safer and more affordable. :)

It would be really funny to see a fight like the one at the end with two very skilled knife users just swapping the knife back and forth, although I know there are a lot of counters that involve using the knife against your foe so that realistically wouldn't happen.
