Never ceases to amaze me how these benign looking yet wonderful characters have such awesome tales to tell. The manned laboratory rockets that he skips lightly over were I believe top secret early spy camera satellite missions. No hint of bragging about what by anybody's standard is a wonderful career.

Wonder if this gentleman ever got to work with Mr Bob Hoover? This was the golden age of flight, speed was king, and these gentlemen were quite literally the tip of the spear! These folks are real men risking life itself for the defense of our great nation!!! Thank you to them all!!!

I flew a 180 12hr. flights out of Newfoundland in a super Connie radar plane which was an extension of the ground radar that ran from the western US to Maine, there was three lines of defense known as pine tree line, mid Canadian line, & the DEW line, we extended the east from Newfound to the Azores, a plane took off every 3 hours as one landed ever 3 hours this was every day regardless of weather. The Super Connie was a beauty loaded with radar equipment; we did visually see Russians trawlers 3 miles from shore, which was the limit in those days, however, we had a super fast plane that caught them with antennas up spying on us. I was a radar operator.

Intro: 1:30 I feel sorta bad for the wonderful 3 or 4 people that are trying to do her job. I hope they feel inspired rather then degraded. I love all the people who comment. This is in my top 5 list of 'must subscribe to' channels.

I remember the F-86 and F-86D model aircraft. The Air National Guard Base in Fresno had them along with T-33's. I remember the Fresno Bee paper coming out with an article on the use of SAGE (Semi Automatic Ground Environment) system on the 86D. The thing I hated most about the 86D was the use of rockets. They were not guided. You shoot them and hope they hit something. Being a high school student back then I can remember B-36's coming overhead. Don't ask me about SAGE because I didn't understand much of what I read anyway.
