Great looking reel boxes. Much better than actually seeing the reel.

Great explanation, thanks for another great video! One thing I appreciate on the 303D is also the left handed option - 303DLX, where the “LX” represents the left handed version. Great reels.

Great videos. Do you know if I have to upgrade the drag system at the start? Heard some fishermen saying that for the CW 30 reel
@nevadaboy9769Ай бұрын
Ive read some reviews on that myself, I guess it's just hit & miss! I just ordered the new Cold Water "A" series CW-30DA, it's has a few upgrades over the 303D including a new dry carbonite drag set up so will see! now after talking to the Okuma rep a lot of the drag issues is not the drag it's the whole wrap of braid spinning on the spool it's self leading ppl to think there's a drag issue. Since the braid is so slick it won't bite on the spool so they suggest adding a mono backer or a couple wraps of electrical tape or something in that nature to give the braid something to adhere to, sounds kind of crazy these days but got to do what you got to do✌️

It would have been nice to have the reels out of the box so we can see the sizes.

Wish I had seen this vid about 4 years ago! I run the 453s and found them too big / cumbersome for lake trout / coho fishing so I went with the 205Ds - they are great for the smaller fish and awesome for my sons to learn on when hitting lakers, steelhead or coho under 10lbs. Still have the line counter, plenty of room for braid line with a leader and a much smaller profile reel in the hand so ideal for smaller fish and smaller anglers IMO.

Hey, Russell.....are you a fan of Forke" Coffee? BTW, I have 3 Coldwater 203D reels, paired with Okuma Deadeye telescopic rods, and really like them, used mostly for walleye and steelhead on Lake Erie. Liked and subbed.

Interesting opinion, I'll consider swapping my wire diver 303ds with my rigger 303d next time i change lines. Now I don't understand why so many ppl seem to think you want high speed for long leadcores and wire.
@plem72103 жыл бұрын
Speed when you are changing lures out. I had picked up a few high speed saltists 50 size. They are nicer for reeling in large leadcore or copper when you do not have a fish on. When I have a fish on non high speed is best. I was surprised Tekota went to all high speed on the redesigned reels.
@andrewkenny7423 жыл бұрын
@@plem7210 yes i agree, with no fish on it's convenient to rip a line in fast and less effort. I haven't fought a big fish on my wire diver yet, only had it since early fall and it hasn't been wet much yet but will be interested to see how much harder it is....
@plem72103 жыл бұрын
Since you have a d and ds. I would for sure use the d for wire diver. Besides the weight of the diver. The wire diver setup has zero give. Be to easy to over pressure the fish with high speed reel. Pulling hooks or breaking leaders on fish. I take it easy with fish using slow speed reel on wire.

Hi Russell. Is it safe to use these reels for the odd sturgeon days from the bank? I noticed the new cold water ss reels have like 25lb drag. thats typically all a sturgeon reel has. Maybe 25-30 on the top end. Wondering your thoughts on this. I wouldnt be doing all that much sturgeon fishing but maybe a 5-10x a year. Ive seen the addicted fishing guys use these on sturgeon so thats what caught my interested.

Good reels. They become great reels when you buy the drag carbon washer upgrades.

They all suck! I’ve used mine for salmon fishing out in the bay. They work great out the box but won’t last for more than a year. I’ve had screws pop loose and the cheap plastic on one of them broke off for no reason and chunks of it got stuck in the gears. Line counter got water in it and can’t see it. It’s basically mass produced garbage with a good overall design made with cheap components that are not shelf worthy.
