I like the way this artist takes risks and is not attached to the work until it is completed

Hi Andrea, I just love watching your videos. I paint constantly with oil and cold wax now, but love returning to watch and listen to your demonstrations. ONE THING I JUST DON'T GET😁 IS HOW ON EARTH YOU KEEP YOU BEAUTIFUL CLOTHES CLEAN!? Every item of clothing I wear in my studio somehow or other ( even my coat, bag, etc...) gets ruined😀 I must be just messy and you are very tidy xx

It is so fascinating to watch your process, knowing that you often have no idea what you are doing, but that you trust that when things start working you will recognise it and go with that. again, thanks so much for your energy and information, i'm loving watching you paint. cheers, linda

I love watching your process and especially how intuitive you let it be...I have always painted portraits and realistic subjects but am ready to just let the process take over. Thanks for sharing - love the piece!
@artistspace3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tammy, try letting the process take over without any expectation for the outcome. You'll see where it takes you, and then follow that path. Will be curious to hear how you do.
@tammyberk78963 жыл бұрын
@@artistspace The part about "without any expectation for the outcome" is a little unnerving for me but I feel I might discover something about myself or my voice if I do that. It should be interesting! I am just signing a lease on a 400 square foot studio so I can dedicate the space completely to creativity.

Great demo. Interesting to me that the painting-at least on video-was more interesting about 10 minutes into the beginning video right after you used the red color stick.

thank you for these demos! I am new to wax and super excited to try it out now. a couple questions that I may have missed from your teaching... 1. how long do you need to wait between layers? 2. can you complete an oil painting and then go over it with wax/paint medium? thanks so much! your paintings are beautiful!
@artistspace8 ай бұрын
Hi, I think if you watch more of my videos about this medium it'll answer most of those questions. But yes you can use cold wax over to complete or continue working on an oil painting. And wait a day at least between layers. Thanks for watching

Thank you, I have bought this expensive huge book regarding cold wax recently, but it's still quite hard to understand. You helped me a lot!!
@artistspace8 ай бұрын
That's exactly why I do these demonstrations. I think learning from a book can be pretty confusing until you've seen a few techniques done live. Then you can go back to the book and it'll make more sense.

I use collage, ink, acrylics, cold wax and oils on watercolor paper and I want to create a smooth surface on top of my painting to cover everything and serve as a cover. Encaustic wax will destroy the paper that I don't want to glue on a wooden base. Only on softboard.
@giorgostheocharous8013 Жыл бұрын
I love the whole composition. Is it possible with cold wax to cover the whole painting or part of it, with a 'plastic' layer as you can do with encaustic wax?
@artistspace Жыл бұрын
I doubt that would work.

hi Andrea, thank you for sharing this series on working with cold wax and oils. I truly appreciate the time and energy as well as the unbelievable amount of information that you have shared. Do you use Galkyd gel? I heard it helps with the drying time, however I am brand new to this medium and even though I added the Galkyd gel my first few experiments on both wood and paper using all Gambling products are still quite tacky after one month. I am afraid to add more layers thinking they will never dry. Any suggestions? Once again THANK YOU!
@artistspace5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, Thanks and I'm glad you're learning from these video demonstrations :) Yes, I do use Galkyd gel, but just a tiny bit of it. You might have used too much. Just a couple of drops will do. There's already oil in oil paint, so you never want to use too much of any medium or it gets sticky. That being said, I don't use Galkyd with cold wax personally, but a lot of artists I know do it. I like the very mat quality of cold wax medium alone. Don't want any sheen.

Thank you for your quick reply. I think you are right, too much added. I will try your way and not use it next time. I appreciate your help. Cheers!

Hello. This video is entitled 'Cold wax and oil demo 3' but when you describe your materials I can't find a mention of the actual wax that you use. Is it incorporated in the oil sticks? Or should I have watched the first 2 demos? I am intrigued by your use of transparent glazes and will enjoy experimenting with these! Thank you, Kezia

No they’re not. Definitely do some googling to learn more. But oil pastels don’t dry, or if they do it takes a very very long time. RF pigment sticks are oil paint with beeswax. The paint will dry
