I have learned that my need for a saw depends greatly on the type of fire I need. When I use a twig stove (solo stove of Bushbox LF) I need the saw to cut 5-10cm rounds (2-4") that I then split & baton with the axe. But when I build a campfire I only need the axe. In both scenarios I have no need for a big heavy knife. For foodprep I use a neckknife, the lighter the better, I am too lazy to properly clean a folding knife. Great video! Too bad about the sound issues!

Exactly, the only time I use a bushcraft knife will be when doing fire in a box, and then splitting take sens and the small size make it safer with a knife I think, otherwise doing real fire I dont need any splitting at all and so I just need the saw..Thanks for stopping by Alex, take care

As I get older, the bag gets lighter! I agree about the knife. My SAK gets all the use! My saw is smaller too. I may go up in size, easier to process fire wood. Beautiful country! Land of my ancestors 🙂

I must say that my needs vary a lot depending on the conditions. I mostly bring knife, axe and saw for my overnighters and sometimes the saw is almost unused, other times the axe and so on. Luckily all three are rather small so it isn't problem if I carry them and they prove to be useless for that particular hike. Looking forward to your longer video of your hike. Salut!

Thank you for passing by Thorbjörn, I think I only use a bushcraft knife in the woods when I do fire in a fire box, that the only time outdoor..otherwise I use it a lot to split wood at home indoor to split some kindling from the wood pile, and I do it a lot but in the woods I just realise its close to never...

I’ve been finding the same thing more and more I have some lovely knives but the one I was using the most was a Swiss army forester knife and the same silky saw as you have there. Had an British MOD knife which sort of filled the place of your small hatchet (axe).

I think thank a knife is a must, for a bushcraft equipment, ir you want a more light equipment, you can use a folding knife with a saw, of course. The Bushcraft is a very romantic movement / livestyle, not only a sport. Thanks for the video , as usual very interesting!! 👏👏👏🤛

Very interesting perspective, thank you, you just put words on things very few people can name.. including me :) I ll have a think about the sport vs romanticism, think iam sensitive to both at different times... very interesting.
@BushcraftSweden
@BushcraftSweden 3 жыл бұрын
And i would add to your romantism vs sport perspective that both are needed to balance and limit the exess of each other.. the romantism is over infiltrated by marketing and products sellers that maybe the sport/survival side could help to counter balance and avoid people bying to much useless shit... And maybe the romantism is needed not to turn Bushcrfat as a pure survival course or competition.. ?

I totally agree with you, brother, bushcraft is fed by many disciplines such as hunting, fishing, carpentry, survival, ... many sports. It depends on us not to be a fashion but a product of marketing ...

ha ha yes i did actually, or a better camera with a good mic but still prefer the pocket size that fit like it is in my pocket without strugle to plug things up etc.. so i just film now and ther on the go, simple, but yeah with less quality.. put the volume a bit up ;)

a good folding saw is priceless. I use an bacho lapplander and it works okey, Minimal efftort to process bigger chunk of branches. For knife i most of the time just use my morakniv 120. Its a good allaround knife for me. Thinking about getting a morakniv classic nr 3 just becuase the blade is longer. I have a Gardberg (I always bring it with me) but latley its not often I use it. My I ask what modell your foolding saw is? Dina videos är riktigt bra önskade du la upp mer men förstår att det är svårt med alla vardagliga rutiner och måsten som behövs tas hand om. Ha det fint och håll dig säker i tider som dessa!

Silky is an awesome tool. What pants do you recommend for winter wear? All The best!
@BushcraftSweden
@BushcraftSweden 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I really love this saw in winter.. I use a Swedish army thermo pants over my bushcraft pants, I like them because they are really warm and it feels reassuring to know its rated minus 30, then you can open on the sides all the way which good for ventilation and access to all your pockets under and or put them up on the go without to take of your shoes.. and then they still cost less than 30 euros :)
