Chicken Little, chill out brah. Much like it plays out in the 1992 novel “Rising Sun” by Michael Crichton, video “evidence” has never just been accepted carte blanche sans forensic inspection- especially if the crime is a serious one (as you imply in your comment). Not sure if you finished the video, but there exists potential everyday solutions for the individual. Block chain can be used to guarantee authenticity for creators and viewers as well. (So there’s a real-world use case for block chain that doesn’t smell of 💩, who would’ve thought?) W’ve collectively adapted to photoshop pretty well haven’t we? We weren't afraid to be out at night. We went through the Gas wars of the 70's. Our Mom was a divorced woman with 5 kids. 2 were already out of the house when we were little. My eldest brother was 21 years older than myself and my second brother was 13 years older than me. Even though our Mom worked while we were at school, we had a great childhood. We all pitched in to help Mom. Technology has advanced so much that it is crazy! Take me back to the days of family gathering, true and loving neighbors. A government that cared for all Americans! @@AglaeJuarezI was joking but what you say is so true. I think that if a stunt actor knows his face will be superimposed he will be more relaxed in front of the camera and his 'body acting' will be better. There is no getting over the fact that some actors just make it look natural and others just Don't have the physicality. I was filmed once for a documentary and I am a fun jokey relaxed person but as soon as the red light came on I was a bundle of sticks. The cameraman said how on earth could I be so different. I was asked if I wanted to be in a movie I made costumes for and I said 'no way in hell' and the director said that I was the first person he met who didn't want to be an actor !
@renookami46515 жыл бұрын
You need a "face actor" and the stuntman/double instead of a single actor who kows how to do both. Until the face actor is popular enough and you can fire them, paying right of use of their face with the software. Which sounds kinda silly since you still pay the face actor so why not just have them do their job? But it is still a good technology for special cases like when an actor is unavaiable or you want a large group of look-alike. Even if that was already possible with other means, most doubles would rather stand still, so it's easier to integrate them, but more dynamic scenes may be possible with this technology. As another exemple, imagine a character not recognizing other people, and thinking everyone have the same face (but they keep their body) which is an existing disorder . That's a case where this technology would come in handy, and the cheaper alternatives may even add some uncannyness to the effect. All depends on the creativity of the users. ^^

I've been dealing with these technologies - first analog photographic process - masking, multiple-pass exposures in camera, and optical laboratory printing processes, followed by learning computer graphics starting by 1969, with a seminar taught by Nick Negroponte of MIT Media Lab. I worked in Silicon Valley for Atari and four other game developers, and I've produced broadcast commercials and internet entertainment programs, and taught these applications for 36 years. What I've learned is that people assume they're seeing reality if it looks like their expectations of how things should look. Hey, I'm just a middle-level hack with the technology; there are people whose skill at mimicking photorealism goes far beyond what I can do. But EVERY TECHNOLOGY LEAVES UNMISTAKEABLE ARTIFACTS. You just need to know what to look for. The problem is that people will believe what they want to believe and discount the debunking.

The one thing this technology can't get 100% correct is how light effects the face. In almost every example lighting gives it away for me almost always that's and often the eyes look void of a soul. In fact even the best cgi can't fool a person our brains are far too smart for that it's almost like instinct we know when it's being fooled. The difference is weather or not you want to believe it. But bottom line we will almost never get lighting or eyes perfect imo it's far too complex for any computer to handle.

Truth. Photo-manipulation and other faking techniques (including for faux antiques, evidence-tampering at crime scenes, you name it) have existed since LONG before computers. VERY good points. And that is the real underlying problem - the dishonesty in people's hearts. We've already learned that the truth makes no difference to some people, and no amount of proof matters to them. They want to believe whatever supports their agenda, and they simply won't have it any other way. And if push comes to shove, they will manipulate to get their way and don't care whether it's based on the truth or not. It used to be called "criminality" and 99% of the population could recognize it, but it's become such a norm now that it's even affecting our language and the meaning of words. Deep fakes will just multiply the problem, and give people more excuses the deny the truth.

The idea that we can use AI to detect fabricated videos will not work. Why you ask. The premise is similar to GANs _(generative adversarial networks)_ which are basically networks that generate real-looking fakes by being trained to fool another network whose job is to tell them apart. It is proven that this scenario converges to an equilibrium where the generator generates real-looking, indistinguishable images, and the discriminator network has a 50% chance to guess whether or not a given image is real or fake. So all you have to do is keep training the deepfake network based on the feedback of different discriminator networks that claim to tell them apart and the counterfeiter will always be one step ahead approaching an ultimate equilibrium where the generated fakes can no longer be distinguished from the real ones. To learn more about this, you can check out the original paper on _generative adversarial networks._
@dinoboyoutuification6 жыл бұрын
Why not use better detection AI than the discriminator network employed in the original neural network? If the fakes are being generated by people using their own computers, it's unlikely that they will be able to run a discriminator network comparable to one a potential law enforcement could. Trying to fool a 5 year old is exponentially harder than a 3 year old.
@gytux02586 жыл бұрын
+Raptorzesty This technology wont be used by just random people. If you had the money you can easily get a super computer or something close to generate this stuff.
@Roonasaur6 жыл бұрын
Then, wouldn't we be mostly-able to stop the fakers by simply keeping the discriminators proprietary, denying them the opportunity to properly train their AI?

Under his watch, the coronavirus killed more people here in the United States than all of the American casualties in WW 2. The United States had at one point the highest rates of infection and deaths in the whole world ( summer of 2020)… and this is why he lost. Trump himself has said that the virus was his main reason for losing (at least battleground states like Michigan) although he still insists he won states like Arizona. Is Biden the best candidate or President now ? No… but Biden won in 2020 for the same exact reason Trump won in 2016… the opposing candidate was repulsive by most voters.

That's a whole lot of saying that's not saying anything relevant. Convince someone to do evil? If suddenly tomorrow morning there were no longer any laws and people could do whatever they want without consequence, you'd very quickly come to realize you don't need to convince anyone to do anything, they'll manage to do the worst all on their very own.

Michele Evangelista Personally I'm worried that on presently "undoctored" TV&video coverage, a real flesh&blood misfit like Donald Trump can be followed& adored by mentally challenged supporters....this kind of person, lacking a critical questioning mind, will be the first casualties of "deep fakery",....most of us will think twice before swallowing. My opinion, other's mileage may vary.

André I'm more scared that people like you can't recognize what a rude,politically ignorant,lying, immature, petty, bragging, dishonest, shortsighted imbecile Trump is. There's a reason it seems to you that most of the world is against Trump, that's why you're in the minority...you're too stupid to see what's right before your eyes.
