An amazing game, we cracked it and even modified it to make it harder to escape, very fond memories of this as kids

I loved that game. I remember playing it with my brother one night. He was the Brit and I was the nasty German. I managed to discover all his escape plans and finally, frustrated, he decided to do a run for it, a 'do or die', as it's called in the game. To stop him I had to roll a double six… Which I did on the very last throw of the game!

In Sweden , in my lower teens , some boardgames from Britain and US found their way to our shops. In the boxes of those games , there were leaflets with ads for other games. Including ”Colditz”. We were fascinated by the pictures and slogans , but no one ever got hold of a copy. The TV show never viewed here. Fast forward 10+ years and there was a version for the Amiga 500 available. We were not dissapointed. I still have my 500 , and the CIB game , and I still play it a couple of times every year. Have NEVER got all 4 guys out at once. EVER.

If James thinks the "Colditz" game is long and complicated, he should take a look at "Campaign for North Africa" (he probably has though). In recent years, this game featured in an episode of the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory", but I remember it from back in the day (late 70s), even though I never played it. is acknowledged to be one of the most, if not THE most, complicated board game ever devised, and a single game of it can easily last for six to eight weeks, or even longer. And yes, the map which Sheldon spreads across the floor in TBBT is the actual map ("board") from the game - 3 metres, or 10 feet, in length. Definitely one for the die-hards.

In England Colditz is a realy big deal but in Germany the castel isnt well knowned, if you are asking people in Leipzig about Colditz the most really dont know what to say thats a littel bist strange I think, for me as a German its interresting how the English people are dealing with the town and the castel and how big the myth about Colditz is, and how often you see english numberplates in the region around Colditz and the river Mulde up to Grimma and so on ;)

This game isn't as bad as James makes out. I have it and what's wrong here is there are only two players. With three or more players it gives more distractions to the guards and allows more escapes.

Yeah, but the man that played Lebeau on Hogan's Heroes was actually in a concentration camp in Poland at first, and then sent to Buchenwald. Counting him, there was 13 people in his family, 12 of them ended up in Auschwitz, and he was the only one that lived.

It's actually pretty good. He makes it sound like it's all luck based and confusing (there are about 10 rules and the rulebook is only 2 pages). There is a lot of strategy and careful planning can help mitigate the dice rolls. Also, you can refuse to submit to Appel, which means the guards do a general search, and if they can't see you, you are safe. It's a product of its Era, but like Cosmic Encounter, is one of those 70's games that was way ahead of its time.
