this is my favorite Coldplay song ever, makes me feel so inspired, it's something almost celestial, I just can't explain how it makes me feel, I can imagine myself watching the aurora boreal or the sun fall on the top of a mountain, the green gardens and the blue skies, elevates me to the top of heaven! Magnificent creation of such an amazing and talented band, Coldplay!

You've nailed this explanation. This is exactly how I feel too. It's hard to put into words but it feels ethereal. It's a shame that the band/Chris doesn't like this song, idk how lol and that's why they don't play it on tour.

I like this more than the actual song lol. Always thought X&Y suffered a bit from being bloated. I like it very much but there's very little room to breathe. It's just a wall of sounds and the vocals mean there's too much going on. In this version, the song is allowed to breathe and the melody to meander and flow freely. It's baffling that they hate this era of their career. Just this instrumental eclipses everything they've put out since 2015, and 95% of contemporary commercial music as a whole. Incredible talent

Lyrics Speed of Sound Coldplay How long before I get in? Before it starts, before I begin? How long before you decide? Before I know what it feels like? Where to, where do I go? If you never try, then you'll never know How long do I have to climb Up on the side of this mountain of mine? Look up, I look up at night Planets are moving at the speed of light Climb up, up in the trees Every chance that you get Is a chance you seize How long am I gonna stand With my head stuck under the sand? I'll start before I can stop Before I see things the right way up All that noise, and all that sound All those places I have found And birds go flying at the speed of sound To show you how it all began Birds came flying from the underground If you could see it then you'd understand Ideas that you'll never find All the inventors could never design The buildings that you put up Japan and China all lit up The sign that I couldn't read Or a light that I couldn't see Some things you have to believe But others are puzzles, puzzling me All that noise, and all that sound All those places I have found And birds go flying at the speed of sound To show you how it all began Birds came flying from the underground If you could see it then you'd understand Ah when you see it then you'll understand All those signs, I knew what they meant Some things you can invent And some get made, and some get sent Ooh ooh Birds go flying at the speed of sound To show you how it all began Birds came flying from the underground If you could see it then you'd understand Ah, when you see it then you'll understand

They used a Yamaha CS-80 and Minimoog Voyager during recording. In fact, in the Speed of Sound video you can see Guy playing the Minimoog, it has a cool interface. It’s actually at every X&Y tour show too, if you play close attention.

They were using old analogue synths like the Yamaha CS-80 and Minimoog Voyager during this period. However, you can pretty much create the same sound in any DAW, even GarageBand. The Alchemy Synth pack is free, and you can edit all the presets.

There is several similarities to the Kate Bush song Running up that hill. As has been mentioned the drum pattern, the dreamy synth sound and the outro is a nod to the holding chord that runs the whole length of bush's song.

@@pedropereiraneto It's... not pretty self-explanatory at all, actually. This is the instrumental backing to a song that has lyrics; it's only natural that people might post the lyrics for others to enjoy. People might even sing along to the song if they know it. There's nothing wrong with any of those, and it being called an "instrumental" instead of "karaoke" doesn't do anything to change that; that's got to be the most asinine thing I've heard in a long time. Here's an idea: stop being some weird gatekeeper douche and let people enjoy stuff however they want to enjoy it.
