As an Irishman in his fifties, I can tell you the positivity surrounding the four shows in Dublin was an absolute beacon of light and hope in quite a dark moment in Ireland. From the reporting to the show itself, there was pretty much universal acclaim.. which has almost never happened. There is a cynical side to the music business and Coldplay seem to have gotten past it all to provide a pure joyous experience.

@@ignaciorourke19 nationalism has been on the rise across Europe really and Ireland is no different. Some people see refugees as a threat to them and there have been quite a lot of protests against accepting any more. This has also spilled over into violence. In Northern Ireland, it took on much more of an anti-islam agenda. Muslim people burnt out of their houses and even if someone looked muslim e.g. Indian Hindu people had businesses burnt to the ground.
@CiaranHanley2 ай бұрын
@@yaicachannel as above but I should add it's immigrants they fear (refugees could fall under that) and in particular undocumented immigrants. Also there was a feeling that they were always being settled in working class areas like Coolock in Dublin and why couldn't they be housed in the rich areas. In general there seems to be a feeling that the immigrants are being treated better than Irish nationals e.g. given houses, paid benefits etc while irish people who are working can barely make ends meet. It's a difficult one to resolve and some political parties have discovered by sitting on the fence their popularity has decreased.

Definitely can relate, but in a slightly different direction. I appreciated Coldplay as a top British band having lived and grew up in the UK. But I couldn’t call myself a fan. I moved to the US, and that appreciation actually grew, a connection with home. I’ve been out of work for 18 months now, ageism is real and the new AI tools recruiters use, almost rule me out, despite my skills being top level. It’s hard, and I found myself listening to Coldplay for more inspiration. I can call myself a fan after all these decades. I’m introducing my daughter now to Coldplay, and will be selling stuff to buy her some presents including a couple of Coldplay CDs.

I love how Coldplay explains the evolution they've had, where they're no longer doing this for themselves but for the people. This might sound cliche at first, but it's definitely a change of perspective: imagine yourself starting a music career; initially you'd worry about your success and the acceptance of people, but you grow mature enough to know music is for everyone to enjoy. In a Coldplay concert, the focus is not really just in the band, but everyone is having their moment.

Looking back on the difficulties of life, Coldplay create a beautiful and intimate space within their music that allows an individual to holistically strip back the layers of being human. Helping process, accept or contemplate the journey inside a world that can sometimes feel harsh, lonely and overwhelming. I've personally experienced a 10 year rehabilitation from a severe cognitive and physical disability. Coldplay were a part of these raw, honest chapters I found myself crawling through. The importance of relationships, desperation, being connected to something more than just ourselves shines through in the lyrics. The music arrangement and instruments drip with relatable emotions that walk beside the listener. It gives room for change, acceptance, a safe space to question, love and cry. Moon Music makes my smile. 🙂

I hope Coldplay's next tour will celebrate their career, revisiting old classics from each album and making it all about their music. I think Will doing a drum solo leading into Yellow would be the perfect song to open with as it is what got them global recognition. Check out INXS 1991 Wembley concert opening song Guns in the Sky. Now that is how a rock band starts a show!
