I have had mine for years and have used it in every temp I can think of and it has worked perfectly every time, and though it is heavy, I do often take it with me into the woods for day hikes and sometimes overnighters. I agree that it's probably not the best for a multiday hiking trip because of its weight, but other than that, you can not go wrong owning one and using it often! thanks for the video!

We used this stove on our trips to train on the ice cap in Greenland. We had one stove per 2 Marines. It boiled tons of snow and ice for drinking water and to rehydrate our rations. Plus, in our 2 man tents, it kept us warm, while drying out our gear. We pulled our own one man sleds, so weight of this stove was not to bad. I have personally owned one of these stoves for 30+ years and it is still like new. You do have to change the seals, if you let them dry out. Thanks for this video. You brought back great memories.

This is textbook Coleman stove lighting procedure. Very well done, Sir. To the folks who suffer from big yellow flame syndrome, THIS is how to cure it with just about any liquid fuel Coleman stove, regardless of the number of burners it may have. Lots of air, have your match lit, open the valve, pump more air. How can these simple steps be so difficult to learn? Especially when they are printed on the stove. Haha. Refreshing to see a guy that gets it . Thank you.

Does dual fuel actually mean white gas OR kerosene??

It was always meant as white gas and Unleaded gasoline, but with today’s gasoline with the ethanol in it I wouldn’t recommend using it !! I have always used the white gas in mine with no problems even after long term storage ! I’ll be using this stove in my next upcoming video. Thanks for watching and take care 👍🏼🏕️

Thanks for the demo - very clear. I have a MSR Simmerlite stove I backpacked around Canada with years ago. But, given the risks of blackouts in the UK, Im thinking of getting one of these 2nd-hand for emergencies. Really like the idea that it can use unleaded petrol and I dont hear anything but good things about these Coleman stoves. Thanks

Thanks Ian !! Yes it definitely doesn’t hurt to have a back up this has been a very good stove for many years , I don’t use it much anymore but when I do it fires right up with no problems, I must admit though I have never ran any unleaded fuel in it just the white gas ⛽️. I've had the same Coleman Dual Fuel single burner for longer than I can remember. 30 years? My memory fails me as I get older. That being said, these days I only car camp for solo fishing trips and in my opinion there are only 3 stoves worth spending money on. The Coleman, the Svea 123, and the original Firebox stove. I pay no mind to weight and use Lodge 6, 8, and 10 inch skillets with them as well as a small Stanley stainless cooking pot. No expensive titanium or aluminum stuff for me. The 533 has the advantage over the Svea in that it has a pump to prime, holds a larger pot/skillet, and has a much longer burn time. The Svea is self priming but much smaller in size and burn time but the coolness factor is off the charts. The Firebox...well what can be said? If you can't burn gas the Firebox burns ever 'thang else. Split wood swedish style, twigs, leaves, cardboard, charcoal, alcohol inserts, sterno, rubber tires, any dang thang that you can catch on fire. And the Firebox will burn for as long as you keep feeding it. All 3 are high quality and the best money you can spend on camping gear. Cool video and makes me want to load up the car and go fishing for a few days Mahalo!
@IndianHemlock2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert !! The Coleman sure is a good one, I don’t use mine much anymore, but it there if I ever need it !! Never seen the Svea 123. Can’t beat cooking with cast iron !! Thanks so much for watching and for the wonderful info on your comment ! Appreciate it !!

@@IndianHemlock Much obliged. The Svea is an old school brass self contained stove but much smaller than the Coleman. Its been around a very long time and super wombat quality and reliability like the Coleman. And yes, cast iron cannot be beat for cooking. Mahalo compadre!

Have the same case for the stove that was released before the dual fuels, I think it may be model 530. I liked the spring loaded funnel that swiveled and screwed on the can. I loved that stove though. Me and my buddy hiked that stove out on the AT many, many times. Was great for 2 person cooking when there weren't many ultralight options and we were teens. Has a great flame control and one tank of fuel lasted a long time. Same here that was 30+ yrs ago.

I bought an used one 4 years ago. This is two of the liquid fuel stoves I know that doesn’t really need priming(the other one is the Japanese SOTO). Most of liquid fuel stoves nowadays have to pump and prime especially with alcohol if you want clean burn. But for a 533 you only need to pump and fire it up like a butane stove. It’s sad that such an epic design is discounted😢😢😢

My son is into scouting and they currently use the flimsy burner things that screw onto those butane cans. But a cousin of mine that was into scouting in the 1990s gave me 442 model, so this was helpful. Would you fill it up to just below the fuel hole? or does it run for a while on even like 1" to 2" of fuel?? I like the sturdiness of it. Is the pump pumping air into it, or does it help vaporize the fuel that is in it?
@IndianHemlock2 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for commenting ! I usually fill it right below the fuel hole, but yes it will run a while on a inch of fuel ! The pump is actually putting air into the tank with the fuel, so if you ever unscrew the fuel cap to fill it you will loose all your pressure and will have to pump it back up twenty five pumps then some additional after lighting. Good luck with the stove, it is very sturdy, but heavier than the butane ones to carry! For ever plus there is a minus ! Thanks for watching !!
@monkeyb18202 жыл бұрын
@@IndianHemlock I fired it up today, it seemed to work fine, but when I'd turn the 'low-high' adjuster, it would spew a bit of the liquid fuel out from where the skinny metal stem goes into the brass (the red plastic is on the skinny stem, then that goes into the brass). Is this normal? Luckily it's not quite volatile enough to make my hand catch on fire-but ideally it seems like fuel would not come out of there. I was using Coleman white gas.
@IndianHemlock2 жыл бұрын
@@monkeyb1820 yeah I would say that’s probably not normal, probably need taken apart, not sure if there is some sort of a seal in there or not, I know there is some videos on KZbin on rebuilds if certain models, maybe that would give you some insight on it ! Just be careful if you use it again !

@Oldsparkey2 жыл бұрын
I had one from the dark ages. Used it to replace a double burner from the 50's. ( The double still works today ) I used the Duel Flue on canoe trips and only used white gas in it. On a canoe trip about 30 years ago and when I went to use it it would not work. I keep it in good shape , cleaned after each trip and fresh fuel every time. I thought it was something I did wrong but a buddy of mine had the same thing happen to him with his. Finished the trip using small cooking ( Trench ) fires. From that day on I have used either alcohol stoves or wood burning stoves. Lately it's a combination of both with the Firebox Nano Gen 2 in titanium. Works pretty good since I hammock camp when backpacking and trees ( small dead branches ) are always plentiful , free fuel.

That's pretty much exactly what I was looking at, except it was new. It must be a good design/system if it's still being used. That little stove looks great for 30 odd years old. I can see what you mean about hiking with it, but could it survive in a small canvas bag while hiking and bumping it around.?? Maybe wrapped well in the rucksack in canvas and she'd be right mate. As long as there's no fuel spillage. Also, just wondering if they originally sold it with a syphon hose for getting free fuel.🤔😁😝 Anyway, thanks mate , I'll feel pretty confident getting this other one going when I eventually get it. Indian Hemlock, I'd just like to say thanks very much for your time doing that review. It's really above and beyond for a fella that just asked a question or two.
