Gotta agree. We ditched LPG years ago for dual fuel stoves and lanterns. Will never be going back. Even prefer the lanterns over LED (hate the white light).

I’ve been dying to buy a couple of those lanterns!!!! They are out of stock everywhere! I’ll find some! Yeah I love these stoves. When you know, you know right! Thanks for the comment!

@@TheMidweekEscapeArtist Coleman have stopped making the Northstar (I have two of them and am now stocking up on spare generators/globes/pumps). The prices of them are going crazy. Just love the hiss and the warm colour.

I recent got a Goal Zero lantern that’s actually pretty good, it got warm light and it’s a mini sun, I’ll see if I can put something up on it soon.

As a Marine, I made 4 training trips to the glaciers in Greenland. We used one of these stoves per 2 Marines each and they kept us alive and never let us down. I own one personally now, but finding a good carry case is tough. I looked up the link you provided but nothing came up. I found a couple of places carry the grey plastic cases though.
@based9989
@based9989 7 ай бұрын
You're right it is hard to find the right case. The plastic grey ones are great but pretty bulky. If you're in the US I've seen people use an empty coffee container (Folgers?) that fits well. If I could get one of those I'd probably use it and take the labels off or something.

Been having a good look at the biolite and I’m totally intrigued. It just means we couldn’t really use it during the warmer months as it would violate fire ban days. But totally awesome stove, might have to pick one up!

I have a lot of stoves of different types and this design holds up really well considering its age. I have an MSR Whisperlite Universal as well as the Optimus Polaris which are great but sometimes the hoses and bottles are an extra headache especially if you just want to store one in your car for cold weather emergencies or whatever. I live in the Midwest of the United States and it gets cold enough here that isobutane really struggles unless you have a way to keep the fuel warm which isn't always convenient. It was -20F a few weeks ago. The real danger of these Coleman ones is dropping them as they're pretty heavy and the metal parts aren't that strong. I dropped an empty one and it fell on the burner and bent the pot stands and generator tube some. I was able to bend everything back and the generator tube was fine but it made me cringe. A cheap storage option are the red plastic Folgers coffee containers (there's a few sizes, some are too short).

Great video. I picked up one of these stoves at a thrift store last week (in Norway). It's in good shape, I payed 50 NOK (i guess that will be about 7 AUD) for it. Tried the stove with petrol/gas, an it seems to work like it should.

@@christophewagner4028 I fully agree. I still use mine all the time. Basically infinite fuel and very powerful but can also simmer. Very tough act to follow.

It's good, but compared to numerous other Coleman single-burners it's ho-hum. Look at the 500, 502, 508, M1950, and on and on. Look at the Feather 400. Basically just look at almost any other Coleman single-burners, this one's ho-hum.

@TheMidweekEscapeArtist How long hours would one of these canisters of real fuel last while camping without refilling? I am thinking of buying one, but have never used one of these -only the butane and propane ones? Any warnings or watch out for tips? I am a little weary of using it since it is real gasoline... Thanks

I use Shellite in mine, it’s also called white gas. Normally a full tank will last me all weekend unless I’m doing a long slow simmer. These are great little workhorses. I still recommend them highly. Yes you need to be a little careful when refilling but you get used to it very fast.
@dreamcatcherjulie1

@@TheMidweekEscapeArtist All weekend, awesome, that's all I need. Going with another person that has never been in the woods- camping-only in a rv, and that's cheating. Going in two weeks and I will pick some of that Shellite, just to try also. Okay well I am going to buy one of these coleman 505's and splurge from my cheap little cookers, although that was a little coleman too besides the tiny fuel tab ones I have. Watched a lot of videos about them and they are a great size and will save a lot of money instead of buying all the cans and such.

Given the cost of these things, might as well go for the dual burner design-unless portability is that important.
@TheMidweekEscapeArtist
@TheMidweekEscapeArtist 8 сағат бұрын
@@sonicmastersword8080 being able to separate them and use whatever size pan I need to is important. Being able to replace one with out throwing the whole thing out is important. Efficiency of liquid fuel is important. Choose your own adventure.

Have you tried using petrol in yours yet? I've heard it can cause the generator to clog up faster but I see one video where the owner said he's only replaced his generator once or twice in 15 years and the trick is to store it pressurised (30 pumps) so that the fuel doesn't sit in the generator. I haven't got a 533 yet, I'm just doing my research. A lot of pros to owning this over gas canisters/bottles

Thanks for the reply. It's pretty tempting with unleaded being so cheap. I might have to look into buying shellite in larger quantities, surely that would make it cheaper Where did you buy yours from? I can't find any stores that sell them, only Amazon in Australia

Hey I just got a 533 using with Shellite, but can't seem to get the heat to be anything but full power... I want to be able to turn it down to simmer... I've checked the wire in the generator and it is attached to the lever... I have even tried with minimal pumping of the chamber to reduce the pressure but its just always a roaring flame...Do you think i got a dud?

The 503 has several advantages over the 508, in my opinion.....it is generally newer, and simpler.....less working parts, and runs on white fuel and unleaded gasoline that in an emergency is easily obtainable.......
