Man! The first piece was no mere warm-up exercise. It, as well as the rest of the performance was a display of saxophone mastery. THIS is Coleman Hawkins! Even at this later stage of his career, he clearly demonstrated that he was no has-been!

Watching the guitarist hand timing, ups and downs and stops, with the finesse of master, picking the strings and stopping at the intersection of the notes, where the melody calls for the the rhythm, to come in and play that tune.

Totally wonderful the solo piece! Also the entire video. But as a tenor player myself, hearing him extemporise alone is LESSON!

He was best in the 20's with Fletcher Henderson. Sadly, I think he would live only two more years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoDIiH6CrciGqck

Please define “extemporise.”

@@JavierRamirezLive in this case, I would define it to mean " tell a story and embellish on it". Does that make any sense to you?

Great video! Thank. Pretty sure all the music is recorded a 1/2 step up (e.g. tunes in B and in F#, not likely). Love Arvanitas (piano) solo in the first tune. Fiery!

I started working on jazz guitar using Mickey Baker's method (French version!) at least 40 years ago, hoping I would be able to crack my idol T-Bone Walker's style...and bang! Mickey gives us a master T-Bone's tune on the second track! On a Gretsch!?

This is gorgeous! What a great build-up of the entire program. Groovy, tasty, joyful and swinging 'till you drop. By the way: The piano player is a huge discovery to me. Thanks, dude!

Getting his chops warmed up. The early bird prepares his chops. Coleman Hawkins has a beautiful sound. Though, I like when he and the younger Charlie Parker, together, gets a kick out the older man and the younger man with his gestures and antics. They both laughs ad smiles at one another, finding, the middle ground where joking, as they are fond of one another's comics, pranks, and joviality.
